Lovely dogs and well done with your site!!Sorry I don't have comments as such but would just like to know if Huskies make good pets?? They've always been my favourite dog but I know that they are bred to run and love to dig! What would you advise??
    Thanks!

There are no illegal dogs in Ireland. There's a restricted breed list but Huskies are not on it.

Can you explain to me where you heard this, i have a staffordshire bull terrier and alot of people say the same to me, im just wondering how do people come to the conclusion that certain types of dogs are illegal? I know theres the list and all that but thats nothing to do with being illegal, and that comment about huskies, as already stated there not even on the idiotic list. I was gonna have a go at you but ill try to understand where your coming from first, i dunno maybe its the xmas cheer in me.

ive had 2 staffs taken from my place its a estate my next door neighbour told me that the dog warden had taken them.so i rang tne warden and he siad he took them to dog pound and explianed to me that those breeds are banned and would not tell me which pound there at and said there probably put down by now!i went berserk.Ifoundthis on the IKC webite:The Irish Kennel Club is shocked and horrified at the sudden implementation of the Dublin City Council ban on certain breeds of dog owned by tenants of Dublin City Council properties.

A meeting was held on Thursday 12th July 2007 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Irish Kennel Club and representatives of the Breed Clubs of the listed breeds that are recognised by the Irish Kennel Club i.e. Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Dobermann Pinscher, German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian), Akita, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Bullmastiff. Mr Jim Cahill, General Manager of DSPCA also attended and addressed the meeting.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly. You've had two Staffies taken by the warden, ok did they enter your premises to take the dogs or were they (your staffs) loose on the estate?.

So far as I know DCC have not implimented the ban on keeping these dogs on their properties, and you say your in Cork so you should check this at least.

It would appear that the staff in some pounds have a policy of destroying certain breeds ASAP. I'm not naming the pound, but I've been hearing some awful stories about one particular pound where a certain member of staff impliments his own little regime of killing Pitbulls and Staffies pretty quickly. If not for the intervention of volunteers who try to get these poor dogs out to foster god only know's the numbers killed.

Re. the comment regarding Huskies being illegal, like everyone else has stated. There are no illegal breeds in Ireland.

That's the bit that was puzzling me too. How would a DCC ban (that wasn't implemented by the way) affect you in any way?

    I think you've been mis-informed about that.

As sorry as I am that your dogs were taken, you know you've only got yourself to blaim for this one and at the end of the day its your poor dogs who've suffered most.

You really should follow this up with the warden in your area, and if you can locate your dogs give some kind of an honest undertaking to keep them off the street in future.

well i have one of my own but she is a alaskan husky slightly smaller than the siberian ones. she is an absolute stunner but not the smartest breed. she likes to run usually bring her for a long run on the beaches. i live in the country so plenty of land around us. she sometimes likes to roam so have to keep an eye on her. compared to our springer spaniel she was so easy to train could have somethin to do with the spaniel knowing to much. we sometimes wonder if she just plays dumb so she can get away with everything if kimmy the spaniel did something wrong we say she should have known better but not wit roxy (Husky) but wouldnt swap her at all. they stay with parents durin the week now cause live in dub so dont get a chance to see thtem that often miss them.

I have never heard of Siberian Huskies being banned I think the kennel club would let me know If they where. Huskies are great dogs if you have the time to give them. I don't work so I am with them all the time. huskies are very independent. You can teach them things and they will listen if they want but if they don't you will have no mission. As said before I would not change my dogs for the world and if you are willing to give them your time they are great dogs.:D:D:D
