    WHAT ?
    Anyone know a physical SHOP where I can buy a mac. I thought there used to be one in dublin...

    WHY ?
    My PC died 3 weeks ago .. HDD failure. so I upgraded to a new HDD and extra ram when I was at it

    Not it's totally borked and won't even boot. I've given up on PCs I dont trust them any more.

    So i want a mac. Tehy work so it seems. My supervisor has had one for 4 years and said it's never failed at this stage I'm prepared to convert to mac-ism. I never have time to play games anyway so I dont care for PCs.

    I was looking at a macbook 2.0processor with 120 hard drive.

    WHEN? : ASAP

    Other general stockists include O2 Experience outlets, 3G stores and some PC World and Harvey Norman shops. A word of warning, it is unlikely that any of these outlets will have well versed Mac experts so don't ask them any hard questions :) Other more educated resellers would be Typetec in Ballymount, Mactivate in Ballycoolin and the Mac Store on Merrion Square. These or Spectra would be the ones to go to if you have any questions to ask.

    If you are looking for the basics on a Mac, either the Macbook or iMac are your (wo)men. iMacs especially are well specced and take up feck all space in the house; mine literally sits on my CD player in the bedroom!

    Spectra Photo Lower Grafton, 110 Lower Grafton Street, Dublin 2

    I found them to have good stock and quite knowledgable.

    Why not buy online?

    el credito cardo no go to the price of a mac. lol

    Addionally I prefer having people to heckle and harass with questions.

    On top of that IF something goes wrong (which it shouldn't tho I'm not that trusting of technology) then there is a phyiscal place to take it back to.

    where is the mac store ? it doest not seem to be listed on apples site.

    Addiotionally do these shops charge reasonable prices or are they totally Irish and charge for shelf space aswell ?

    I notice that the is a difference of about £50 /E80 buying in ireland.
    Ireland is overcharging as usual. :(

    Probably just better to get one in the UK.

    They are called the Mac Shop (Sorry!) and are on 60 Merrion Square, tel 678 288. I don't think they do Saturdays as they are not a walk in shop per sé, but they are Mac through and through; worth popping in if you are that side of town. If you know what you want though, any of the resellers will be as good as; subject to stock being available :)

    the 2.2 seems better +200 yoyo for the DVD drive, the +.2/+.2 on the cpu and +40 gigs of space.

    The black one seems over priced its +200 extra for +40 more gigs and blackness....

    Next question;

    is it worth getting the 2x1Gb Ram ?
    how vital is RAM to a mac ?
    is its OS really ram intensive or does it just depend on what programs? Is the difference noticable?
    I know that the difference on XPSP2 for example betwen 512 and 1gig is a lot but 1 gig to 2gig is not as noticable.

    Is it cheaper to buy the RAM seperatly myself and put it in ? par example;

    its +140 for the 2 gig upgrade on the apple site
    but only 54 euro on komplett...

    is this a good/bad idea?

    Also sorry for all the questions but I really need to research this I dont want to have swapped a wad of cash for a laptop computer that is not as compatable as a windows machine (tho windows is actually run-abble on a mac I think!) but is dead slow.

    so; is the extra ram worth it ?
    and is it worth getting it from apple or getting it myself? (i can put ram in pcs and laptops.. not a big job & done it before)

    The RAM is worth it, especially if you want to run Windows in a virtual machine. Don't buy it from Apple, buy it yourself, it's incredibly easy to put in. You take out the battery, unscrew a metal bracket, pull a lever :)

    The more RAM you can get, the better, man. I doubled the RAM in my iMac recently and to say it has quietened down (Fan heat, delays in beachballing, speed of opening programmes etc) is an understatement. No matter what OS you run, it all loves extra RAM :)
