Skiing for 1st time from tomorrow, just wondering whether you need more than one pair of thermals? Do they get really manky?

I generally bring 2 longs sleve tops on my trip - wear them alternate days(Peter Storm Thermal Tops - Millets - 35quid I think) and wear shorts, under my snowboardin' bottoms, if its really cold.

If you are skiing for the first time you'll probably be suprised just how warm you get, and you won't be spending time riding long lifts or subjected to the winds at the very top of the mountain.

The trick is to layer; thermal T shirt (wicking type is best) or high silk content if you can afford it, or a thermal type long sleeve, cotton long sleeve over that (soaks up the sweat) and then either thin jumper + thick top layer. Leave off the top layer if it is fairly warm. Best to choose nice long layers. M&S Thermal range is really good for the price. I have 3 or 4 of their thermal Tshirts and they are cheap and excellent.

As far as bottoms go I usually wear thermals only if it is bitingly cold (-10 or lower) trackie bottoms + ski suit is fine.

    LOL
I went skiiing in Jasper in a pair of baggy jeans, a t-shirt, and a heavy snow jacket in the middle of a freezing febuary.
You'll be amazed how warm you get.
