Wireless Controler Question

A while back I bought a cheapish set of wireless controllers for my PS2 in Argos (I Know!!!!), mainly to play GT4. I had been using my standard DualShock 2.
I've noticed my game is terrible on the wireless controller, I think it's not sensitive enough (attempting small corrections in course tends to send the car into the barrier.
Am I imagining this or are the Argos controllers $hit (like I don't already know the answer to this)
Also, any recommendations for a good wireless controller that won't cost the earth?

We bought the package Argos sells to go with our PS3 which had a stand, a HD cable (the main reason we bought it) and a wireless controller. The controller is a pants. We noticed for GT that it isn't as sensitive as the original Sony controller.

All I can recommend is have a look on eBay for a cheap Sony one.
