Firefox problem

I am using Firefox/2.0.0.11 and for the last few weeks I cant log in to Ebay or Paypal. I have to switch to IE to access the sites and this is a problem as IE will freeze about 3 different times before I can use it. Never had any problems up to recently.

Any ideas what could be wrong or how I could fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

Oh - not sure if this is relevant or not but I have no problems accessing my credit card or a couple of bank accounts with firefox

Do you have Adblock or any such thing installed? Try disabling it.

Try a clean install of Firefox and see if that works? If you don't want to reinstall try the portable version over at www.portableapps.com

Have you installed / modified any internet/security/anti-virus type programs recently?

Thanks for the reply random. I dabble at things I dont know much about . Not too technically minded when it comes to PCs and internet but I would have a couple of anti virus programmes running that I downloaded but its strange that its only ebay and paypal that I cant access.

I will reinstall firefox as suggested and let you know how I get on.

Edit: Will the reinstall remove the bookmarks?

Try the mobile solution of Firefox first .. should run separate to your main Firefox and might help out to start with.

Also I had problems similiar to this before (affected all browsers though) and it turned out to be MTU settings on my network card / internet connection. I downloaded an application called DrTCP and changed the MTU to 1480 I think.

    you could use mozbackup

download + run process explorer - post a snapshot if you can.

having 3 virus scanners won't necessarily catch everything and anything potentially malicious.

You should only have one anti-virus program, having more than one can cause a load of problems, this may be the case concerning the ebay and paypal sites.

If you clean up your cache, etc, that may do the job

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
      Double-click
    ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
      Click
Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
      Click
Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I don't think re-installing FF will lose your bookmarks, but not 100% sure about that

Thanks for all the help and advice guys.

A friend of mine had also mentioned the ATF Cleaner so I downloaded and ran it and hey presto everything is fine again.

Apologies for the mix up about anti virus scanners. I only have one (AVG) but I have 3 spyware programmes I use - Spybot, Ad-Aware and Spyware Terminator

    Once again many thanks.

PS just when we are on this point would any of you know or have an idea as to why it is so difficult to get IE to run. When I click the browser window opens up but thats that - it freezes the whole system and I have to use the task manager to end the task. After about 3 times doing this it will work.

I think its fully updated. I log on to the Microsoft update site about every 2 - 3 weeks and search for updates.

    The IE version is 7.0.5730.11

i would check what add-ons/plugins you have installed, and disable or remove those you don't recognise.
