Has anybody got one of these, I'm thinking of getting the 250 plus model to replace my old DVD Recorder. (I have a mac mini as a media centre under the TV) I'm looking for some opinions from real users

I have an EyeTV Hybrid, a simple receiver for both Digital and Analogue TV. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever, I love it! The software is easy to use, quality is fantastic (obviously better on digital), editor is handy for cutting out unwanted bits of programmes... What more can I say, it beats the hell out of anything Hauppauge are providing on Windows (not once, but twice, installing Hauppauge drivers has completely screwed up XP on me).

One tiny issue - if you plug in the receiver via a USB hub, rather than directly into the Mac, the computer can't sleep. It needs to be plugged in directly. Elgato are aware of this and are supposedly working on a solution.

I've been using one for years. An old USB EyeTV, pre 250. Just ordered another more recent one for my other Mac mini.

In the living room we have a Mac Mini hooked up to a 32" widescreen. Often the misses just browses and watches TV. I use a MacBoko Pro. For the kids it's great too, record to a vast external disk and have hours and hours of stuff at hand for instant playback. Quality is so so on the recordings but not an issue for us as we are recording from NTL cable so the image is not crystal clear at all times anyway.

Haven't time to give a full review but I'd recommend it. There are Migla's (spelling) on the market too but I've no experience of them.

Best of luck in your search. There was a thread on this before, just have a quick search.

    Cheers,
    Peter
