recently saw a guy who had one of these and was really impressed. a compact camnera, really lo-tech, a viewfinder and a shutter that worked when you pressed the button, not 5 seconds later.!

anything else digital on the market like this? need one for my ma for xmas... and maybe another for me...

Leica are top of the range man. Used one before and your right their lovely. Ive used a few from the Fuji Finepix range with grand results but and I dont want to come accross as condescending as Im thinking of my own folks here, there are a few buttons and settings on them and what I found easy they might find confusing.

Perhaps a decent camera phone? Much the same price really...

I think Panasonic are very similar to the Digilux brand and if I am not mistaken they manufacture for Leica so have a look at them.

Leica and Panasonic developed those models together, the Panny variant is usually quite a bit cheaper.

yeah, well thats what made the leica come to mind. i know she wont use it if too much of that stuff messes with her head. id like her to have something that was intuitive and gives someone a bit of control over the image without overkill.

Thanks nilgh and borderfox. i suppose this would this be the lumix range? do they meet the idea of the previous paragraph.

BTW, just info in general. i see now ebay seems to do a digilux 1 (released 5 years ago) for between 120 and 170 sterling. god arent they beautiful.

I had a Lumix fz5 many moons ago and it was a great performer, more of a bridge type camera.
