    Hi,

I bought a 16GB IPod Touch online from the US. I received it yesterday.
It was sealed, brand new box etc....

I hooked it up to my PC to charge it and then powered it on a few minutes later. The problem i have is that the 4 bottom touchscreen buttons (music, videos, photos and itunes) are not responding. It appears to be a problem with the touchscreen.

I sent it to an authorised Apple dealer today and they have come back to say that the bottom (dock connection) is damaged and that warranty won't cover this. I explained that i in no-way damaged this, didn't force it, didn't let it fall, it was simply like this coming out of the box.

They have now agreed to send it to Cork to try and get a replacement for me.

Where do you think i stand on this? I can 100% say that i didn't damage the device, it just simply wouldn't do what it was supposed to straight out of the box.

I would really appreciate any advice that you can give me.

    Thanks.

Well they should be able to check when it was first registered, or if its even registered at all, that way they can tell if you've used it etc.

they should give you a replacement or repair.

if the people in cork give you hassle, file a repair thing via the apple site, they will send out a UPS man to collect your ipod and will post it back to you for free, it usally takes a week.

    Thanks Mr. S.

I checked the warranty online yesterday evening using the serial number. It's under warranty until November 2008.
I hadn't officially registered it (with itunes) but i had paired it with my copy of itunes if you know what i mean.

Can you send me a link for the repair thing - just to have handy if i do get problems from Cork.

I can't believe that this has happened, so so disappointed after the excitement of receiving the damn thing.

with faulty of ipod, you need to register it on the website and click on that sneaky little link to repair your ipod, maybe try this https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

didnt look into the website since my ipod warranty gone.but if you do it right,u will end up with getting a repairment from them, they will send you an empty box from UPS with bubble wrap, posting package etc, just send them your ipod with the box.you can hand the parcel to the delivery man immediately(which i recommend) or ring them to retrieve at a fixed time, all is very handy and superb, free:) then you will get an email say your ipod is received by them and hows thing turn out.

    Thanks seraphimvc,

I've heard about this alright. I think i may have done this but in another method. I gave this to an authorised apple dealer in Galway. They have now shipped the ipod to the netherlands for repair/replacement.

They say i'll have news on this on Monday next, so i best spend the weekend praying that there'll be good news.

once they receive the ipod, it should be done that day, so hopefully it should be back in Ireland by next week!
