What is being held at Midlands on Saturday is a Man V Man competition.
It will be very similar to the shoot off's at the European Handgun Championships in France this year.

Two shooters are in the same shooting bay. Each has 6 steel poppers & 2 plates. On the audible start signal both shooters draw and shoot all targets. One reload is required between first & last shot. You must finish on the last plate in the centre (or popper in the attached example). It's a knockout competition. It will be arranged so that you get to shoot a number of times rahter than coming all the wya up & discover that you're knocked out after one attempt !!!

It's great fun for shooters & spectators alike :D:D

The attached link should graphically explain what we're doing:-

Sounds great, similar in some ways to Army falling plates which is great for shooters and spectators alike as well :D

Glocks, SPO-01's, S&W M&P's etc... against pimped up STI's, SVI's, Sigs, Les Baers (both custom double stacks & single stack 1911's) etc.... It will be interesting indeed:D:D:D

May the best gun/shooter combination win :D:D:D:D

The type of gun will not save you.

I was in one of these once with a CZ Champion .40 Cal - there were plenty of guys in it with STIs, Tangs, red dots, cooked chickens hanging out of em. Admittedly the champ has a compensator on it.

There were a few shoe-ins to win it but they all went too fast - so word to the wise - aim your shots - MAKE SURE you drop the steel with the first shot as you will instinctively move off it once you shoot and if you have to go back you are done for.

Perhaps not, but it is a great oppertunity to see all of these fantastic pistols!:D

Certain guns can give you an advantage though. This is an excuse I have relied on many times!!:D

Hey guys, come on, a bit of respect for Rew's question......

Went very well. For the Man V man shoot off we had 16 competitors (perfect for the IPSC J ladder). If you lost it didn't mean you were out totally. You got a few goes. Les Baer 45ACP's were out in force. Everyone got a prize so no one went away feeling a loser :)

Among the instructions was that you had to do a reload after the first shot & before the last shot. This was explained numerous times by one R.O. ( I won't mention his name here)

He was up first to shoot I think & guess what....... He forgot to do a reload (now you know why I won't mention his name) :D:D:D:D

I came away with a bottle of wine & a selcection box for the kids even though I came 7th so I'm happy.

    Regaring pictures:-
Not sure if MNSCI permit pictures being taken. I didn't see anyone with a camera anyhow. I know at our previous IPSC comps it was MNSCI policy that no cameras were allowed

Yes all reports are good ,
Safety standards were as usual, excellent ,
with experienced RO's in attendance watching like hawks .
Great to have something a little out of the ordinary sometimes,
and also to have somewhere available to try that at those ranges too.

Actually , strange as it may seem ,
By Bisleys standards that isn't that long a range to shoot at .
I think i heard that they do centerfire pistol comps up to 1000yards.

We're a little shorter than that , but its nice to have a good news story here
for a change and see people enjoying good safe fun .
(I still find anything over 15yards with a pistol, impressive shooting :) )

Well done for the report ..

It was referred to as 'free pistol'. The pistols used were all custom made jobs with 12" barrels and bolt action with scopes. Fired sitting down benchrested on a leather bag. The one I saw had tungsten weights in the grip and when it was fired a flame about two foot long came out of the barrel. Needless to say the recoil lifted it up over the shooters head.

The chap had to use a block of wood to knock the bolt back to eject the empty, but he was hitting the ten ring at eleven o'clock at 1000 yards using 7.62mm hand loaded rounds.
