As a huge fan of the Burnout series, I'm gonna have to say I'm very dissapointed in the demo. The free-roaming nature of the game doesn't do anything for me. Its like playing Need for Speed games

Have been playin it for the past half hour. Graphics and gameplay are very good. Not a lot to do other than the 3 events. Looking forward to the full game..

    that sounds good to me

i loved the free roaming in nfs, and the racing in burnout, so this could well be my ideal racer

Can't remember how I got there but it allows 4 people to tear around the map in a game of chase if you will. I pushed start or something. Not at home to check for you but it is definately there.

while playing press right on the d-pad, this brings up a small menu. move cursor down to free burn i thin it is, the press right and right again. bingo!

Had a go on this there.

I'm not a fan of free-roaming racing games, as all it tends to do is replace an easily-navigated menu screen with lots of padding. Course design also tends to suffer...

Those reservations aside, I still enjoyed Burnout. The handling is great, graphics are nice and the online play worked fantastically well.

No split screen? Or will it be in the full version? Burnout 2 and 3 were great party games for racing and for Crash Mode. Would be a shame to lose that element. The free roaming works okay- seems kinda aimless. Great visuals though.

Happens to me sometimes also- just log into new game and make sure your connection isn't getting hogged by yer PC or anything. When it works, it's great.

    Burnout 2 is GOD!

With that out of the way, what does everyone think of the new game?
A lot better than the previous next gen effort, and feels better than Dominator, I just can't love that game at all.

    The bigger question is,
    Which is better?
    The PS3 Demo?
    The 360 Demo?

Structurally the are the same and I have played both of them and still not sure.
The lack of rumble on the PS3 hurts it, but with the launch of the Dualshock3 and patches for existing games to take advantage that's not such a big deal anymore.

Also I always played Burnout on Sony hardware and got used to the controller, never warmed to it anywhere but the PS2.

I'm sure the two are near identical, but since hearing that the game was developed with the PS3 as the lead console I am biased towards the PS3 edition.

Can a clear, fresh or failing that less biased mind please give me their opinion, bear in mind that unless you've played them both extensively you can't really argue either way.

    Fanboys need not apply!

I'm not sure, but I've picked up a Dual Shock 3 today so I'll report back on the rumble when I get home!

Penny Arcade are of the opinion that in this instance the PS3 version comes out on top:

Hard to say without playing the final game.....(which probably won't happen, as I'm not too fussed about the demo), but I do find the PS3 version to have the slightest edge..
Posted this in the Xbox forum when the demos came out, but there definitely seems to be a slight frame-rate hitch is busy sections (especially when hand-braking around corners) in the 360 demo when compared directly to the PS3 one. Some people say they cannot see it (can't rule out whether or not the internal 1080p scale on the 360 one may be introducing it, which is why everyone may not see it), but one thing for certain is, if you play both platforms straight after one another, the PS3 demo on the whole seems to hold up ever so slightly better and the little hitches of the 360 demo do become more apparent..

TBH, graphics in both versions almost look under-HD, with jaggies apparent in various sections anyway. Its possible the 360 version could be optimized further for the frame hitches, and there's no way to know how the remainder of the city will play out, so it definitely sounds like a wait and see for fans with both platforms in order to see which is better.
Haven't bothered with online in either demo, so I can't say I'm an authority on how they compare with one another..

By the way, the Dual-Shock 3 is supported out of the box so to speak........feels OK I suppose, so it may come down to which pad you prefer for your arcade racers if controls a deciding factor..

Does anyone know if there will be the equivalent of Crash Mode in this version? The thing that made Burnout truely unique was the requirement to do a certain amount of damage in a single crash. It mixed crashing (always fun) with a sort of 3d puzzle... I really think they have been phasing this out in recent reworkings and it shows in that the game is now similar to the throng of other racers out there. Which is a pity.

From watching the demo for a long time (my flatmate was playing it :) ), its clear that a lot of work has gone into the graphics and physics engine. I don't think as much thought has gone into the game and the interface. Missing a huge long race by a few seconds is irritating.... having to drive all the way back to restart it, is fncking idiotic.

It looks like the designers played Vice City and Skate and decided to crowbar it into their series. Its very slick but I enjoyed the set piece races and crashes and this feels like a big pile of "stuff" with the developers saying "here you go, pick through it yourselves."

Of course I'll buy it, I've finished all the predecessors, but I worry that this is style over substance...

Oh yeah, and there had better be a "kill the radio DJ" option or the sound is getting turned off. Would somebody PLEASE tell EA that they are unbearably uncool.

    DeV.
