Want to do this in the summer. Road bike, minimum clothes in a rucksac, over 4 days.
    Anyone done this?
Main issue is transport to and from start and end point (please dont say cycle). Will probable be doing it alone so no support car.

    Any advice gratefully accepted

410 miles with a rucksack on your back seems like torture. A pair of rear panniers will make the most of this very enjoyable trip. Getting there and back is down to bus eireann if you have no backup.

    i'll second the pannier racks.

again Ryder.... get a carrier fitted properly and a set of panier bags. You'll comfortably be able to take 10-12kgs that way.

You'll be one sore dude if you try that distance with a rucksack.

    Hi

Sorry to Hijack this but, how did you get on??

I'm planning on doing Mizen to Malin unsupported on a road bike in a month, travelling pretty light, but any shop I go into tells me I can't put panniers on my road bike, I cant find any old school type middle frame bags..

I'm getting a little concern about how to transport gear, ruck sack would be a nightmare...

    Any advice at all...

if your going light ISH then concider a carradice saddle bag either camper or barley models super 100% waterproof bags also the expedition rack is very good or either that strap the bag to saddle rails.

did this over 4 days exactly like OP stated

we got a taxi bus from cork to the start so depends where u coming from as we were living in dublin

i did with a rucksack on back and trainers. Wont lie my back killed me for 4 days so panniers is a must even though packed lightly

stayed in hostels en route, 160km per day

great to do it, we were lucky with weather and no punctures

I did it last year. fitted a rack and panniers to my Specialized Allez.

Cycled to Heuston and got the train to Cork. Then cycled to the bus station and got the Bus Eirean coach to Goleen. It was then only a few miles to my hotel in Barleycove. I started then next morning cycling to Mizen Head and back before breakfast.

Overnight stops on the way were
    Day 1 - Listowel
    Day 2 - Galway
    Day 3 - Donegal Town
    Day 4 - Malin

Coming back I used John Mcginley coaches although I had to cycle down to Cardonagh (not that far). I got dropped off at Dublin Airport and cycled home from there.

I can give you more info/maps if you want/need.

no worries. it loks small when you get it but i see that as a good thing - it forces you to only bring what you need and definitely should carry enough for your basic needs for the few days.
