Does it annoy the hell out of you when idiots, usually driving an enormous Mercedes, drive so close to the kerb that it is impossible to pass them. This happens so often that I have taken to cutting out infront of them and blocking them if the opportunity arises, which it rarely does, unfortunately. I am pretty sure the fact that there are other cars, let alone bikes, on the road doesny even occur to them...stupid bastards

Just overtake them on the right. There is always room, bit scary the first time but you get used to it.

I will usually knock on the driver's window as I pass on the right, and ask them if there is any particular reason for them blocking my route. I get an interesting variety of responses, from apology, to laughs, to derision, to 'I'll wrap that f***ing bike around your neck'. It gives me some hope that they won't do the same thing next day.

I'm just starting to learn how to drive, yes the rules of the road says keep left, but it doesn't mean on the kerb! :D

You're advised to keep a distance of one door from all parked cars, and a central position between kerb and white line.

Lets rant about Merc and BMW drivers.... <yawn>.

I am commuter cyclist and also a BMW driver and while I find that some drivers of bigger cars drive close to the curb they are not the most common offenders. I find little old ladies, in the likes of a micra, far worse. but the worst is the good old taxi drivers, reving their engines behind you when they can't overtake, then when they have half an opportunity to they proceed only to stop 10 yards ahead and block your way.

Another thing I have noticed recently is how close left hand drive cars pass by, can be a little scary.

Oh I've had that happen, bloody annoying.

As for the taxi's, as yes there funny, problem is sadly they think they own the road, alot of them also over take very close

One day I was turning into the road near where I live and the car behind me kept reving behind me looking to over take me...despite the fact I was turning right! He then proceeded to shout abuse at me as he past and I was turning it...f*ckin muppet

Why don't you just cycle on the foothpath as normal. :D

How about if every did what you did, would that make it a nice place?

Taught the same thing, and had a mark against me for passing parked cars at too much of a distance. However, the man is right. According to the rules of the road you must stay left as much as possible without "blocking or endangering cyclists or pedistrians". Mind you that's pretty difficult in some places given the width of the lane

Interesting point. Question though. Where the inside car lane becomes narrower and the cycle track remains who has the right of way? That is, can the car legitimately enter the cycle lane to fit their car in the lane therefore blocking upcoming cyclists on the inside. I'm talking where the car has two lanes in the same direction and a cyclelane, e.g. a two plus one road.

Not bashing women drivers or anything but I have found in my commuting experience they give the least amount of space when passing, them and boy racers but don't get started on the chaving boy racers.

I guess it's down to whether the cycle lane has a broken white line or not. If it has a solid line cars really shouldn't be in it, but to be honest there are road markings through the city which confuse everyone and some don't appear where they're really needed

A car can only enter a cycle track that has a broken line. In fact a lot of the cycle tracks with broken lines are alongside lanes that are too narrow for cars, which means they have no choice but to drive/stop in them. Vehicle in front has right of way.
