Flying in to Scotland a few days after Christmas, will spend the New Year there. Flying in to Glasgow, would like to see Edinburgh but apparently will be packed at that time. Might just hire a car and drive around for 3 or 4 days, get in the Highlands or Glen Coe. Any reccomendations? Any good concerts or events there?

There's probably still time to get a pass for the Hogmanay Street Party. The concert in the Gardens is pretty pricey, but the Street Party passes are only a few quid.

New Years in Aberdeen is a Street Party on the main street - live entertainment which is free. This year it is Travis and Sandi Thom playing

Quite a few bars up that area too that serve drinks

    Thanks for the links.

Only just realising how busy Edinburgh will be. While I'd like to visit it, I might just hire a car and drive from Glasgow over to Oban and Mull or that area.

Not sure if you have been before but if not Edinburgh is a must. Its my favourite city for xmas and new years i spent a few there. The train from Glasgow wil get you there in 50 minutes and its only £5 return last time i done it. the castle and gardens are beautiful.

I cannot rave about edinburgh enough, its a a lot different to Glasgow.

Got a hotel in central Edinburgh so booked it. Will still probably hire a car for a day or two anyway. Thanks for all the links.

    Conor,

If you get restless & want to explore a bit, head for Glencoe/Oban/Fort William.
Staggeringly beautiful, unspoilt area. Oban & Fort W. will have New Year celebrations too, if the thought of Edinburgh is too much.
Mind & check the weather forecasts though....it can snow A LOT there in a short time!
If you need any specific info, just ask.
