I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on Recycled Newspaper/Cellulose insulation.

It seems green but it all seems too good to be ture.......

For example, the newspaper they are using, if its not going to go towards making new newspaper, wont more trees have to be cut down to make the new newspaper? (I hope that makes sense)Or are we making less newspaper, so in effect this form of insulation is using something that would have been waste?

Any opinions would be great guys.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I think this may be better suited to "Green Issues" but I'll let Muffler have a look.

I can see your thinking, but it would infact to all recycling.
The cellouse insulation is made from recycled (news)paper, but its not really correct to think of this as a depletion of recycled paper. It is probably true that is the insulation didn't recycle the paper someone else would, (as I imaigine we use more paper than we recycle) but you should be comparing the insulation with other insulations.

smashey, I did think to put it in that section but was unsure.

Mellor, good point about comapring it to other forms of insulation, and it seems to do quite well when I do so.

Does anyone know where the paper comes from? Do we have enough in this country or is it being shipped in?

    Cheers guys.

I have this in my roof. The guy who installs it had a plan to build a plant to make cellulose insulation, The council objected and so it remains that it all comes in from Germany.
AFAIK there is a big problem with disposing of used paper as no-one wants it.
It is certainly not turned into new newspapers.
