The price of beer is horrendous and most other things are expensive. Beautiful city and everythings well run, but would seem a strange one to me for a lads weekend.

Stockholm is great. When do you plan to go? What are yous interested in doing, besides drinking and skirt chasing?

    Head for Tallinn.

Estonian Air fly direct from Dublin to Tallinn, otherwise, Ryanair it over to Stansted and Easyjet from Stansted to Tallinn.

Its cheap, a beautiful city, nice people, plus you can do a day-trip to Helsinki on the hovercraft/hydrofoil.

Good spot for a lads weekend away!

stockholm for a lads weekend isnt great, a lot of the clubs are very picky about who they let in and you'll have to queue for ages. It's very expensive and if youre going in the next 4-5 months, bloody freezing.

Have heard good reports about Tallinn/Riga/Copenhagen/Prague. The girls in stockholm are qaility, but theyre great in estonia and latvia too! :D

I’ve been to Norway loads of times but never Sweden. Lads in college went to Stockholm for a lads weekend and had great weekend but also came back broke. It's Very expensive, for food and drink. In Norway its around €8 for a pint and a bit less for the local brew.

Went out to lunch and got a toasted ham and cheese , it was €12 i nearly fell over.

Its great to go if you get a cheap flight, and a cheap place to stay. RyanAir are doing good deals, but SAS are cheap if you have a look.

    Hope this helps

I've lived in Stockholm for years and iId have to agree
    - expensive to go out (more like 5euro a pint) but restaurants are OK.
    - clubs can be picky with lads (as opposed to amsterdam, prague, tallin etc.)
    - best in the summer. (its about -10 max in winter)

it is beautiful , got great shopping, swedish women are fantastic
decent restaurants, culture & gigs scene.

    if you do go
-check out Söder / SOFO. the more bohemian side of town.
    - flynordic, SAS and ryanair fly in from ireland.

and pm me for more if you decide to go.

I'm telling you - Helsinki or Oslo are both better options.... Helsinki is cheaper and a bit of a hidden gem 'cos they don't get too many muppets coming over from the UK etc and the locals are very friendly shall we say. Oslo is also top but the price of drink is a killer. Helsinki is actually cheaper than Ireland at this stage due to the way prices in Ireland have gone.

I had a friend with me in both Stockholm and Copenhagen (we drove).
We ripped it up each night.

He got it right saying Copenhagen had more of an edge.. more likely to get into trouble !

    I'd say its more expensive.

I'd also recommend Antwerp for a good lads night.

Stockholm doesn't have to many visitors on the lash.

unless you are there for pride week !

Copenhagen is also good - pretty expensive too though - comparable to Stockholm I'd say. Stockholm is a bit up it's arse - even people from Sweden don't like people from Stockholm.... Go for Helsinki...

you can really cut down the cost for Oslo by flying Ryanair to Torp - it's 90 mins to Oslo on a bus - all very comfortable tho and you save time 'cos of the small airport factor. book out a few rooms in a hostel and you have saved yourself a fortune to put into the drink! that's what we did! The flight times are ideal for a weekend too - fly out 3pm fri. flight back sun eve.

Scandinavia can get extremely cold in the winter. Temp may stay below freezing for days.

cheers for all the reply s again, its not lookin to good for stockholm.

any one ever been or hear anything on bratislava?

Me again (I have done quite a few weekends around Europe as you can see...)

    Bratislava: -

    been there

    + cheap
    + fit fit girls

    - at the weekend it is literally like an English stag party convention (you have to see it to believe it). Literally 1000's of punters from Geordieland dressed in batman, superman, scooby doo, caveman stag party outfits thinking that they are hilarious then fighting each other....

    would you recommend it???

if you can handle the stag muppets from Engerland, yes. Honestly - temple bar is 10% of what you would see out there. we had a great time there but was only there for a night. the old part of the city is very small and there didn't appear to be a lot to do. there's probably associated stag party stuff like paintballing etc - look into it. if you just was 2 days of on the piss and on the pull then go for it. bit of a backlash from the locals towards big groups of lads though. we were only 3 and were talking to lots of local gals who were good fun.

what is the nite life like in helsinki? were thinkin may be headin there, but it would be a saturday to tuesday due to flights

would be good on the Saturday but Sunday and Monday I'm not so sure... you'd be talking about going to the popular bars like an irish bar or something on those nights... I'm mean - most European cities outside Dublin are quiet on Sunday and Monday.... might be worth paying the extra to get in a Friday and Saturday if you ask me - no point saving money like that - it's a false economy my man. would recommend it there tho - I have been several times and on one particular occasion on new year's in a club I had so many quality girls chatting me and my mate up that we both actually had the same thought at the same time - this is what it must be like to be a rockstar!

its lookin likely we ll head to helskini for a weekend, and maybe hit talinn for a nite too! thinkin of flyin to tampere and gettin train down to helskini.

can any recommend any hotels to stay in either places that would be nice, good value for money and close to the nightlife???

    thanks

Look up Hotel Arthur. Get a family room or two - it's like an apt - great value and central and they are sound there.

Helsinki is alright for a night out, didn't blow me away. But the ferry over/back to Tallinn is mad craic. Pure booze cruise full of Finns looking for cheap beer to bring back. It doesn't get going until about 30 mins into the journey as they can't serve the cheap beer until they are in international waters but good craic once the beer flows. Talinn is nice particularly the old town, worth staying for 1 night. The trip back is even better craic as most of the Finns are well steamed and you will see people providing them with shopping trolleys getting off the ferry so they can take all their booze off the ferry with them!

Also if you are still thinking of Stockholm there is an overnight ferry from Helsinki that will get you there, not as much fun as the Tallinn ferry but not bad either.

Yeah the plan is to stay the first two nites in helsinki, then get that "booze cruise" over to talinn, and stay a nite or two there! is there any certain ferry to get when headin over to talinn! also can ya recommend any were to stay or pubs/clubs to head to????

    cheers

    Hi Everyone!
Im flying to Skavsta airport with ryanair to stolkholm.
Want people to give me some tips of where the airport is situated compared to the main city and the best way to get there! best hotels around, sightseeing?

Im flying with my girlfriend during dec for a weekend away.

    Thanks!

Skavsta is a good bit out of the city in a forested area (its actually outside a town called Nykoping which is an adorable little town) and only can get a bus AFAIK. There is a bus servise that goes straight to the City Terminal from Skavsta. Its Flygbussarna, coincides with Ryanair arrivals, cant recall how much it is just go to http://www.flygbussarna.se/Default.aspx?lang=EN for details. Takes about 90minutes and is very comfy indeed.

As far what to see/do in Stockholm:
    Vasa Museum,
    the Old Town (Gamla Stan),
possibly Skansen id the weather is good-old fashioned fold park, lovely bakery in there, might even by Xmas markets,
walk around Djurgarden (where the Vasa is),
    Kings Palace,
Ahlens City for some mod shopping

Stockholm is such a gorgeous city that if the weather is dry you can just walk around and enjoy the archipelago, the boats, water features and everything! Im going in 10 days (for the 6th time and cant wait!)

    Enjoy!

Is there any advantage to booking the ticket online for the bus from Skavasta into Stockholm?
