Hi!! Just got braces, metal ones on the top, getting bottom ones at the end of Jan! Just looking for some tips in relation to what to avoid eating, care of braces...etc. Am so afraid of brushing them too hard in case a bracket pops off or something!! Anyway, nay advice or past experiences would be helpful!! Cheers!!

Im mid-way through my ortho and getting on fine. Avoide toffee or sticky foods, not only is it not recommended at the best of times but quite simply you will find that you just won't enjoy eating those foods / sweets any more as it is simply too much effort!

Try and stay away from fizzy drinks or at least use a straw, this will help greatly. Brush gently (using an electric tooth brush if possible) around each bracket, ensuring to spend time above and underneath where bits will get trapped. Floss as often as you can to keep your gums healthy (no point going through a few years of care and neglecting your gums).

Be sure and see your dentist for regular check ups, and if necessary pop into the hygienist for a good cleaning every 3 / 4 months as a helping hand. It takes a whle initally, but after a few months you'll fly through it. Your braces should look shiny at all times. Pays to do it right in order to achieve best results when they come off! Best of luck...
