We are looking to go to Rome for the New Year and there are a myriad of hotels to choose from on the web. Can anyone recommend something decent that does not cost an arm and two legs?

We will have our 5 year old with us so family room would be a requirement. A family run hotel might be be better than some of those impersonal conglomerates than appear first on a google.

Can't really recommend any specifics but look out for good hotels near Termini station - easily walkable to most of the major sights and some good cheap restaurants (and a McDonalds if the need arises), and has multitudes of tour offices nearbuy if you want to do a "Rome at Night" style tour. Also, trains and buses from the two airports stop at Termini so less of a hike when you get there (if you're going the train/bus route).

Will have a look around tomorrow see if I can dig up some recommendations from people at work.

    Jolly Hotel Carpegna.

Rome generally isn't really family friendly in the accommodation sense.

    Bring Pram.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking that Rome could be a bit of a struggle with an impatient 5 year old all right but we were looking for something outa Cork in the New Year and Rome suited us for Flight availability and price.
If the hotel was near a good transport network it would be good help and I appreciate that advice.

i know this post is very old but just replying incase anyone is looking for info travelling to rome. i spent 2weeks in rome last june and found the whole accommodation thing quite difficult when planning as the standard isnt the best for the money you have to pay. After months of searching i came across www.sleepinitaly.com, they offer centrally located apartments for couples, groups etc and are of an amzingly high standard!! the apt we stayed was the nicest place we have ever stayed, would highly recommend this website and service..
