New Kildare-Heuston morning timetable

In the new Dublin-Kildare-Portlaoise timetable there is now a 30 minute gap between trains at the peak time of 7.18/7.48. Furthermore this 07.48 is rarely on time because the Intercity Cork-Dublin train is delayed more often than not. That's a 30-40 minute gap between trains to get to Dublin before 09.00. And if you just miss the 07.18 you have a hell of a long wait...

After all the bull about 'we're not there yet but we're getting there' (or whatever that crap advertising slogan was), this is unbelievable... There was a better service 5 years ago.

One of the reasons, I think, is that Iaranrod Eireann are bending over backways to facilitate their sexy 'flagship' Cork-Dublin service. Unfortunately, it is at the cost of their regular daily commuters...

And the new 7:17 train from Hazelhatch was 13 mins late yesterday and 14 mins late today, so completely negates the benefit of an earlier service.

This should improve when the Kildare 4-track project finishes.

Well, the four tracking isn't going to finish for Monday.

Today, the 08:35 from Hazelhatch ran nearly twenty five minutes late. Ianrod Eireann apologised for "any inconvenience caused" as usual. I suppose it doesn't occur to them that if you are late for work you are by definition "inconvenienced".

I've noticed that some or the announcers now say "we apologise for the inconvenience caused" which is better. The "any" bit used to annoy me - of course we're inconvenienced!
