New AEG advice please

I need some advice regarding a new AEG.
I want to buy a reasonably good quality AEG, I want to buy Irish and here's the shortlist (so far):D

    G&G GR300 L (379 Eirsoft)

VFC FN SCAR Light (370 Eirsoft)

    VFC HK416 D145RS (449 Eirsoft)

CA Steyr AUG A1 (319 MIA & AirsoftEire)

My (rather simplistic) thoughts so far are:

GR300 - looks the business, but never seen any G&G stuff first hand, but it seems very good quality. Love the look of it, Good price too.

VFC SCAR - seems to be a great deal - very good price - compared to abroad and VFC are obviously a great builder. Only gripes are the stock - not mad on the shape and it's actually quite front heavy (light stock I guess...).
Comes with 2 barrels and in a hardcase too! Very nice package.

VFC HK416 - like this alot but it uses a PEQ battery box which I'm not mad about (purely looks wise) and it's expensive compared to the others (and it's cheaper than VFC SCAR in some sellers abroad).

CA Steyr - Love the feel of this AEG. Great balance, nice ABS body (fantastic for camo painting), nice ergo's and good price. Only thing I dont like is the lack of expandability.

Been reading reviews on Arnies etc. and all are excellent buys.

    At the moment it's
    1 416
    2 SCAR
    3 Steyr
    4 GR300

but I'd really value your opinions/experiences and if any of you have either the VFC416 or a G&G GR300 (and are at HRTA anythime soon) - I'd very much appreciate a look and advice.:)

    Thanks all:)
    Aidan.

One of the staff members at AI mag uses the GR300 if thats any indication.

The GR300, the 416 and SCAR will all let you beg mags from others on the field when you are under fire, the Styer, though a lot of them around, isnt Stanag compatable.

Plus its the single ugliest gun since the FAMAS.

Our of those I would rank them this way

416 (very pretty but known to have out of the box wiring issues)
GR300 (known to have the odd problem)
SCAR (even if it looks like it has a club foot its supposedly top notch)
    Styer (ew ew ew)

have to say i think the steyr is pure fugly., but i had a play around with "cheeky monkey's" steyr at hrta and have to say its an ergonomic masterpiece, you wont find a rifle thats as comfortable as it,. id even concider one myself even though there ugly.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Hey, no one is saying the styer isnt ergonomic and the CA certainly has the range and accuracy going for it.

It just looks like a pole jamed in pla-doh thats all.

And the FAMAS is very ugly ... its why I own one :D

i have 2 g&g's. historically they used to have problems, not any more. a lot of what you hear on g&g is friend of a friend stuff. like most they could do a better hopup rubber but thats about it. g&g have (i think the scar) gold or silver plated wiring to up the performance. the only issue with g&g is they dont have realistic trades if that kind of thing bothers you.

they do magnesium bodies to give you metal content but keeping it light and trust me i love metal but after 4 or 5 hours playing the odd kilo or 2 less is a good thing.

the bodies are flawless, the main issue i have is it more like a piece of art, so i prefer to use my dboys for kicking the crap out of. but you are lucky in the fact that each one of those are great pieces. if you want to know about vfc ask fiach or skatedude. i saw both and they are amazing, and i do mean amazing. i dont own ca but you cant really go wrong with them. like you i like the 416 but hate peq battery boxes altho you could rewire it with a crane stock, but i guess at this level you dont want to do that.

consider yourself lucky you are at this level, its a great problem to have. good luck

Oh, and Sweet Jazus! the AUG is bloody ugly. It looks like someone slapped a magazine through the side of a butter churn.

Mind you, if it's got CA written on the side, I'll shoot with it......

for anyone that disses the p90: You obviously haven't used one! :D

defenderdude: based on what i've seen and heard, i'd go with the VFC SCAR, absolutely lovely aeg, and as you'll have seen from the review on arnie's, has some absolutely revolutionary features :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭hoplite

Well if it were me none of the above ;)

I'd get a classic army G36 (full length)
    or
    TM Sig 552

But if I have to choose from your list than it would be the VFC SCAR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

the AUG is the best looking bull pup weapon ever ,and it works

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

From the list, I'd go for the VFC SCAR, the AUG A1 would be a very close second.

I'm waiting for CA to bring out the AUG A3 before getting an AUG though.

I like the look of the 416 14.5D but I would rewire it with a crane stock and I have seen some bad reviews of it. Is there no way at all to fit a battery in the RIS hand guard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭thehomeofDob

VFC Scar - it's my next weapon of choice. As KD said, there are some revolutionary features, and the build quality seems to be second to none. Getting the black one off Tony just after Christmas.

Thank you each and everyone for your input and advice!:D:D

I've decided to take the plunge with the VFC SCAR.

Tho, Tony has very kindly offered to bring a couple of the G&G's for me to have a look at - just in case;) Thanks m8.

...maybe, my wife might like a GR300 for Christmas instead of those silly gold diamond ear-rings...

Once again - Thank you all :)

Are my eyes betraying me? Richie accepting the augs brilliance(bar asthetics)? Richie, you know you shouldnt be on boards if you've had a few:p

Defender: Yeah, the A1 is lovely(you'd know XD) but the newer productions have had issues. Something to think about. Mags arent really an issue, the JG ones are grand and you can get 2 for E12 shipped:) Expandabillity, well, I dont think you need to expand on it. You could get a 203, phantom kit, rail sys ect but they are quite pointless to be honest.

Just wait till you are done mine and I put in the new hop-unit. Then I'll show you how deadly they are, especially with a tight bore barrel(509mm):D

You're all getting confused between something that looks good, and something that does the job it's designed to do. Again.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ugly goes to the bone, and it doesn't matter what it looks like if it doesn't ;$&* work.

    Form follows function.

They look good and do the job [very well] the only ugly varient is the A1 :p though its still a great design.

could not agree more, i had the tm sig552 with hurricane metal body and had to sell it as i needed the cash at the time on boards, i regret it to the bone and plan to replace it as soon as i can, it was a lovely bit of kit, really well balanced, ergonomic and just fun

It's always important for a rifle to have good ergonomics before you hit someone with it.

Oi, stop pimping them. We cant have everyone running round with 55 variants now can we, PTP have dibs:D So far two 550s and a 552 in the next week(Subject to tony having them in stock). BTW, the Jg is better, thats what we're using:)

Glad to hear a few people like em, must look into those metal bodies. Would certainly be a nice change to see a few 552s around to counteract the amount of M4s out there.
