I watched the recent "SS" debate with some interest, right up to the last locked thread and ban. I saw the same methods and attitudes in action that I saw on another thread which caused a debate on "real steel". I note that the hierarchy of the IAS and the moderators of this forum have a considerable overlap and I suggest to the readers that this is not a good thing. Anytime that a thread is raised, which potentialy goes against IAS policy, it is in danger of getting locked and the author banned. You might argue that the rules of the forum are generally given as the reason for banning but who created the rules? Such rules are needed for every forum but it appears to me that any "grey" areas , open to interpretation, are being used by the mods/IAS to close down anything they do not like the look of.
I look at a number of fora on boards.ie and I have to say that the mods on this forum seem to take a more heavy handed approach than any others I look at. I would be interested is seeing other views-as long as the mods let the thread stay here.

I rarely see heavy handedness by the mods, as you put it.

The ss and real steel were the only instances where they are very strict, and rightly so.

Real steel is a different forum and confusion may get the sport banned.

SS is iffy, see above poll, it is taken seriously, and is debated as to whether it is suitable at all.
A poll seems pretty democratic to me.

Anything else is ejits talking about illegal aegs over the limit etc. so that has to be deleted.

airsoft has been getting a lot of bad press and the IAA and the mods are

trying to stop posters that will ruin it for everyone, from what iv seen most

of the lads here support the mods/IAA (myself included) and you would be a

    long time looking

    to find one that didnt.

the pro's of having overlap between IAA and mods is that they know what

they are talking about and are respected people on boards who represent the

    sport well

As I've said several times, the user was not banned because of the SS thread. It was because of the hissy fit he threw when his thread was locked.

If you wish to raise issues with the moderation of any forum, you must do it within the forums which were created for this purpose. Either feedback or help desk. Not here.

    Locked.

I'd also like to point out that of the moderators of this forum (Myself, o1s1n, ditpaintball and RuggieBear as category mod), o1s1n is the only one who is an official IAA representative (chairperson)
I myself do have involvement with the IAA, but not on an official level, I turned down a position on the committee for several reasons, one of which was my personal feeling that remaining unbiased in the mdoeration of this forum with regards to IAA representation is an important thing to have.

The ban on real steel discussion here is because boards already has a shooting forum where that discussion is more relevant, whether or not the IAA wishes to affiliate with shooting clubs is a completely seperate issue.

The SS stuff as you can see from the various threads, is a pretty hot topic, and in the interest of being fair, we decided a poll should be held to get the feeling of the community.

Anything else that is generally locked or deleted is for legal reasons.

If you wish to discuss this issue further, feel free to pm myself or o1s1n or post a thread in the feedback forum.
