    Hi guys..

I've a cousing living in China at the moment and I can get him to buy a bike for me and ship it over.

What taxes/duty/ am I going to be looking at?

    I've settled on a Yamaha R1 so...

are the duty prices based on the chineese value or the european..?

    any other considerations? emmisions etc?

    thanks for looking

As far as I know, when importing a vehicle, you will have to pay 21% VAT on the value of the vehicle in Ireland, and well as the standard rate of VRT on it, based on its engine displacement. It works out as a hefty amount, but if you can get the bike for much cheaper abroad it would work out quite well.

I know a new FJR1300 costs just under €10k in the US as opposed to €18k here so if I were to go with that option I'd have around €8k to play with for taxes and shipping, which seems quite good.
