its not so much the brand name as theres a few different qualitys in all branded blank dvd r
its the dye on them ritek g05 is the proven best or the Taiyo Yuden dye if you can get your hands on them.
i transfer vhs and beta to dvd for various companys so i need to use premium dvdr
mostly minus . as some players dont like plus as much they tend to stick on some sonys and pioneer players where minus is more compatable

also if you use dvd decrypter you can read the dye type of the disc in the program
    hope this helps

Thanks all. I made recovery disks on memorex and also on TDK. I am not sure if right, the instruction was to download any updates from Vaio site and install before making recovery but it would not download. I think it is a joke to expect people to make their own disks I am going to ask the consumer people what the situation is andthen have to waste time trying to find a web page that does not even recognise the model number. By the way I did not get windows licence. Should I? Got one last time and it was a preinstalled OS too
