Got it the other day,its not bad. Game is better then I expected,I thought it would be on rails or wven just stantionary shooting, but theres levels where you can run around using the stick on the numchuck

Yep, got it for €40 in Gamestop over the weekend.

There are 27 levels (sounds like alot, but it isn't), based on 3 different formats.

    - An 'on rails' target game (which is probably the best type)
    - A 'defend yourself' game where you stand on one spot and turn 360 degrees to protect yourself (using a radar to see which enemies are closest to you)
    - A free roaming game, where you move Link using the nunchuk and fire using the Crossbow. I though this would be more fun, but the movement controls aren't great (and the time limit doesn't help)

Levels are grouped in threes, and you are given an overall score at the end. Get 20,000 for a bronze medal, 40,000 for silver, 60,000 for gold etc.

The most addictive (and at the same time frustrating) aspect of the game is that cumulative hits = a score multiplier, so if you keep hitting things without missing, the score from it is x2, x3, x4 etc. (I got one run up to x40 last night).

The zapper itself is really well built, and is bigger than I thought it would be. Its also has a nice weight (its not too light). Its well designed too, with a nice compartment for the nunchuk cable.

Crossbow Training is good fun (and only €40) so I definitely recommend it.
I don't think you'll still be playing it in a month though....

Smyths in Galway have it for €30 (€27 with a loyalty card this week).

    Balls.
    F**king Gamestop.
(On the plus side, its probably €45 in Game)

    €29.99 in Game too. Heh.

    No comment.

I'm usually loyal to Smyths too, but I was in Carlow over the weekend, and assumed that the €40 in gamestop was RRP.

It can be used with any game (its just a cradle for the wiimote and nunchuk). There is no extra functionality or electronics built into it.

Makes more sense in lightgun style games, though.

yeah was in game - yer one in there said "it's really good value 'cos it comes with a game too" - what a load of crud!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,896 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

how is that a load of 'crud'? it is good value at 30 euro with a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,617 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

A bloody good game too. Short, but very cool while it lasts.

Can you aim with the controller or do you always see the cursor. The wiimote aiming is off with the sensor bar and would need calibration. Would much prefer accurate aiming, always used it in virtua cop and time crisis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,617 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

You always see the cursor, retro.
There is a calibration function in the game.

Same in RE:UC (although the cursor is functional - it shows health and highlights weak points)

Meh! Not a real lightgun game then. Only really useful in the arcade games with the machine gun weapons, no good at all for the pistol games.

you can use the button on the control stick as a replacement for the A button i think.

I got the zapper for the same reason as you, but gave up on it after about 20 minutes. found it easier and quicker to use the wiimotre and nun-chuck as standard then in the zapper - even holding it felt awkward, with aiming now being controlled by the left hand as well as pulling the trigger - which is not how I would use an M16 or Desert Eagle (the only real guns i have held) or a paintball gun, if i swapped hands round it then felt like i was pointing the gun unnaturally

i know you muppet. but they are charging 40 in gamestop, not the rrp of 30.

in any case, by all accounts from reviews online it appears to be an overpriced lump of plastic that's unwieldy and uncomfortable to use so I'm not going to get one anyways. apparently the crossbow training is more a demo than a game, that will last about 2 hours.

Is Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles worth getting for a serious Resi fan? My brother has finished all the games on the Gamecube and Wii and is looking foward to the new CG movie.

RE:UC is an "on-rails" shooter (like virtua cop), as opposed to a survival horror. but if he is a hardcore fan he'll prob like it.

anyone seen or used the wii 2-in-1? :
    wii%20gun.jpg

I havent used the zapper yet, but was thinking of buying it. 2-in-1 looks better than the zapper tho because you can have the nunchuk connected or not, so you can use it like the zapper, but you could also use it for say, red steel maybe, because you need the movement of nunchuk in that game, which you wouldnt get using the zapper.

any opinions? also, what do users think of the zapper?

Wow.... You mustn't buy much games if you're complaining about a game for 30 quid that has a free plastic thing to put the mote into.

30 quid is the cheapest you're likely to get ANY new game on the Wii... there were a few driving games that had a free steering wheel and those were also 30 euro... (yes, another bit of plastic, but they also work well).

The game lasts a lot longer than 2 hours to me (unless you just wanna clear it and dump the disc).. I find it actually a very fun game. I don't see it as a demo, but it does have a short-ish life (like 90% of all Wii games).
