It doesn't say anything about the processor (the laptop has x2 in the name so I presume it's a turion x2) or graphics. Despite the fact it says "Stunning graphics", I'd say it has integrated graphics.

If the processor is a TL-60 then it will be decent enough price.

I can't seem to find anything about this model (not even on the targa site). I think they may have messed up the model number.

yes if it has a decent processor it would be a very good buy and having used a targa laptop before they are pretty good.

Very Unlikely someone in store will know the exact spec and info on the laptop so no point in calling them.

Wonder is there anywhere we can ask?

Slightly off topic but... does anyone know the Irish number you should dial for LIDL/Targa warranty support? My dads laptop has died after 2.5 years - wouldn't power up at all.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Colm

Just for any future searchers, I found it by ringing LIDL - 008000 8274272.

Pretty good deal. HDMI and HD2400 for 699...Ram needs upgrading though out of the box, Vista would be a pain on 1gb.

Thought I'd weigh in here and tell you to avoid Targa and Lidl laptops as their not very well built.
The three year warranty is great , collect and return so they have your laptop for a month at a time if something goes wrong.
The one I had keep breaking (this was mid 2005) so eventually after much heart ache, emails, letters etc to Targa, they finally refunded Lidl who in turn refunded me.
Now credit where credits due they did refund me the total I paid for it even after 6 months use.
But I thought I'd post a warning that there not the best laptops around, well in my experience anyways.

Machines is ok, the 2GB ram in it is probably the best thing it has. Processor is mediocre, onboard graphics claiming 320mb of ram which is shared from your 2GB of main memory so it'll be rubbish basically,Is that the one their offering for €699?

Is this machine the best specs that you can get for that money? would i be better off getting a dell or somethin else? that's pretty much my budget anyhoo

and how would this dell compare? (vostro 1000)

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ie&cs=iebsdt1&kc=N4X10003&l=en&m_30=116169&oc=N1210005&rbc=N1210005&s=bsd

it has a two week waiting list.... is that realistic? would it come before christmas or soon after at least?

The processor is better on the dell. The lidl one has more software and more extras included. It depends which you'd prefer. I'd prefer the better processor myself. If you go with the dell upgrade to the 6 cell battery as it will offer you much better battery life.

You might get the dell before christmas if you order now but I'd say it would be tight. Someone ordered one a vostro the order day and his delivery date is December 31st so it looks likely that even if you do order now that you'll get it after christmas.

how bout the graphics though? they're both pretty woeful i know but would it make a difference?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

X1150 is a bit better then the 6100, but you're really comparing crap with not quite as crap. But, that's dependent on what your intended uses are. For day to day tasks and playing old games (say, 2004 downwards) both are perfectly good. It goes without saying, not advised for modern gaming, but other then that, sufficient for anything else you could think of really.

I dont think I would be a gamer...

but is that processor quite low spec?
It has got 512kb cache? I thought 1mb cache was standard? (not that I know the difference/meaning, but I am all ears...)

also the "Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 with up to 380 MB graphic memory"
-I have been told that you want a dedicated 256MB memory as a minimum. this is shared? a 128
