Laptop DVD/CD Drive Issue

Hi All, My laptop cd drive recently started making strange noises when reading or burning CD's. It always happens when i try to read the outer tracks off a CD - for example i can rip all track from a music cd except for the last song! Any ideas or is it time to buy a new drive???
