Unable to update using usb stick

Hey all a friend of mine has no internet at the mo. He has a 60gig PS3 and wants to play ps2 games. We have tried putting the update onto a usb stick and uploading it that way bur no joy, i have done this the way sony's web site instructs. Any Body any ideas

Did you make a folder called PS3 in root of USB stick with folder called UPDATE in that?
Then place the FW update in that folder.
So it should be PS3\UPDATE\EBOOT.PBP
Is the USB stick formatted as FAT32?

ongarite have done all of above but still no joy. His PS3 has never had an update of any sort would this have anything to do with it

You might just save some bother, and bring his round to your place if you have broadband, or somebody that does, and download on the network?
