Masters in Law

    Hello,

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to do a part-time master's in law in Dublin. So far I've found UCD's LLM, but the lectures are during the day, meaning bye-bye full-time job. TCD don't seem to offer one in the evenings either.

If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful. Also if anyone's currently doing a LLM I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm currently doing the LLM in UCD part time and I would not recommend it. It is very badly run. I'm working full time and they keep messing around with the timetable, it's impossible to get any feedback from the lecturers and don't get me started about the admin staff.

I went with UCD mainly because they offered the LLM part time but IMO it's not a course that can be undertaken part time. A friend of mine did the LLM in TCD and she was of the opinion that it wasn't great either. In her words she felt it was just a name with no resources behind it, which is what put me off.

If I had to do it all again I would take a year off work and go with the MA in International Relation in DCU which is originally what I wanted to do but I thought it wouldn't work with a full time job. Nearly a year on I'd have to say that no Master's works well with a full time position.

This probably isn't much help to you but I would definitely have another look around at what is out there.

    +1

Also doing the LLM in UCD and the way it is run is terrible. There is no consistency with how modules should be assessed, timetabling is worse, and the admin, truly $hit! I managed to have 4 exams in the in less than 48 hours with two exams running consecutively.

This has led myself and many others to put a great deal of weight on how a module is assessed when determining our semester 2 subjects (which is a farcical way to be approaching a taught masters)

On this plus side, if you can wade through the above crap, there is broad choice of interesting modules on offer, and the calibre of lecturer and materials provided has been quite high.

Gotta agree with the above. For this semester I've chosen modules on the basis of how they were assessed simply because the exam timetable last semester was crazy.
