Caught these guys at CMJ in New York in October. Ridiculously good band. Nice blend of many different styles from Congolese soukous to Western classical, with a nice touch of indie and punk sensibility. One of the better bands to appear in a while.

You might have heard their song 'Mansard Roof' on the radio. The album is well worth a listen too.

Saw them last week in San Francisco, was really looking forward to seeing them live as i missed them when they supported The Shout Out Louds, they are one of my most played on the i-pod, would really recommend them !!!
They dont have too many songs but have the potential to be massive, good songs include Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, A-Punk, Oxford Coma, they played some new stuff last week that was excellent too !

I'd agree that some of their songs aren't too strong. Though for the most part the songs are interesting and get better with each listen. The sound they are going for is pretty unique and thats a lot of the appeal.

I have them on a loop on my PC - love em! Wonder will they ever travel....

Loving their music at the moment, especially 'Walcott' - such a catchy tune, love the string arrangements.

Wonder will their album release at the end of the month get much notice. They are playing two London shows around it, nothing else though - it's back home then.

Heard great things about these guys, but was extremely disappointed with what I heard when I got my hands on it. By all means, check it out, but it really did nothing for me....

I saw them recomended on MTV2 and download some of their stuff and I have to say the only song that appeals to me is Walcott. I realy dont like Mansard roof at all.

Having heard a couple of tracks on the blog circuit, I was fully setting myself up for ignoring these, but then I was given a copy to review and I have to say some of those melodies are pretty insistent.

Some of the songs are really great, things like Oxford Comma, Walcott and The Kids Don't Stand A Chance. The afro-pop influence is there, but they also sound a lot like The Walkmen, and I used to listen to a lot of The Walkmen, so hearing their musical offspring but with harpsichords and fake African diction was a pleasant surprise.

Love, love, love this band. Like nothing else out there at the mo. Haven't been this excited since the first time I heard the strokes or libertines or kings of leon. Not saying there by any means as good as those bands but they are exactly what I needed right now, was getting a bit bored of the constant same old same old coming out of the indie genre.

Oh man, they are better than all of the bands you mentioned, possibly put together.

They're ok i suppose. A bit too Paul Simon-ish for my liking. I do like 'I Stand Corrected' though

It was either this or the new Hot Chip album I was going to buy today. I bought the Hot Chip album.

It's floating around the interweb thingy....but they have an interesting cover of Exit Music (for a film) by Radiohead if you can find it. Worth a listen.

I really don't get the "sounds like Paul Simon" thing people have with this. Sure, one song, 'Cape Cod Kwaasa Kwaasa' sounds ridiculously Graceland-esque, but the rest of the album, whilst borrowing from African music, manages to sound fresh and new and indeed, completely unlike Paul simon. With reference to CCKK, they are being ironic in so far as I can tell - referencing Peter Gabriel and so on. The obviously imaginitive, clever and often funny lyrics make me have faith that they know what they are at.

I do get the Walkman (ridiculously sweet band - saw them at CMJ too, love them) comment Karluss made. The drumming and overall feel. Though they use this influence very well. Again the fusion of styles is what really makes me expect great things from Vampire Weekend in the future...

    Karl.

Really like this album. Surprised that M79 hasn't got a mention - love the harpsichord & strings intro.
