Youmight be able to get a Nikon D40 Digital SLR with a kit lens for that price or the Canon 350D with kit lens. The best place to call into or ring is probably Gunnes in Wexford Street in Dublin (if you are in Dublin?). Small family run shop that don't force sales and give genuine solid advice. I've been dealing with them for about 8 years now and can't recomend them more higly, I'm sure alotof other people on here would say the same. Their number is (01) 478 1226.

    Pete.

a nikon d40 with lens and memory should be on your range and it's a fantastic camera

a canon 400d should be very similar too

buying from hong kong and you'd probably be able to afford a Nikon D40 with either two lenses (kit and 55-200mm VR) or kit lens plus a SB-600 flash... either option would be great for an amateur/semi-professional photographer.

I think Pentax and Olympus also have low cost options too... K10d? or E410/510
