    Morning,

Came in this morning and my SATA drive was making a nasty clicking sound.
The drive is no longer recognised in BIOS and cannot boot.

I'm imagine its dead. Any ideas how to get data off of it ?

I have always tried the freezer trick it has worked for me in the past.

Of course this is a last resort measure if you have valuable data then go down the professional recovery path.

if you do decide to try the freezer, place the disk in a Ziploc freezer bag and pop it into the freezer for an hour. Cooling the disk can subtly change the geometry of the head and platters, enabling the drive to pick up data for a brief period of time. Make sure you have a new hard disk installed, as well as mirroring software like Norton Ghost ready to make a one-shot transfer of the old disk's contents.

I had a Maxtor dies on me last year.
Exact same problem clicking drive after the slightest of bangs.
Turned out even the professionals could do nothing.:(
