I am thinking about getting the Asus eee Pc. What are your thoughts on it? Can you connect an external dvd drive to one? What is it like as a multimedia Laptop and what are Flash videos like on it?

There is a thread about it here, you might want to give that a read.

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to hook up an external hard drive. It only has 4 or 8GBs of memory so it can't store that much and hence rubbish for media unless you get an external.

I'd love to get my hands on one, throw it in yer jacket whenever your heading out and you always have a laptop with ya. So its not the fastest beast around but handy when in a wireless spot and you want to check emails etc.
I really like the idea of the 8GB Flash Drive version with 1GB Ram but as far as I remember it was bordering on the $499 which would need to come down in price a bit first...

You can upgrade the RAM yourself.

I know yeah but its more for the 8GB storage I'd be looking at the model up from the 4GB one with 512mb RAM. Still though would love to tinker with one just to see if they're all their supposed to be.

You could look at buying an 8GB sdhc card along with the 4GB model (as the eee has an onboard SDHC compatible card reader. SDHC card sizes are expanding all the time, so it wont be long until 16-32 models will be available. Just a thought!
