    Worthwhile, if there are enough samples on the disc and they're high quality. There are plenty of recordists out there who can't play guitar at all (fortunately, I am not one of them).

    This is no different than buying a disc of drum loops or rhythm section grooves.

    This is a very common thing guys! Sampled instruments are used extensively, often in TV/movie soundtracks, as prototypes of recorded music, or for making finished products in the studio.

    Unfortunately guitar samples tend to not work so well as other instruments as the picking nuances/dynamics are very difficult to convey via the MIDI protocol. It works extremely well with many other instruments though, such as piano or drums.
    So what would you actually do with it then ?
