During the college year I want to get my ps3 online through the colleges SUPER fast connection because I live close enough to be able to connect. My problem is that to use the internet with a laptop they make you bring it to them and they register it.
The question I have is would I have to bring my ps3 down to them or how do I get online?
Is it possible to get online by going through someone elses laptop who's registered with the college?

(I have no onlne experience because I only have dial up at home)

I seriously doubt they will let you register your ps3 for use on the college network due to bandwidth restrictions, although it would depend on the college. Still you can get around it by connecting a registered laptop to your ps3 via ethernet cable and then bridging the wireless and ethernet connections. I use that set up with my 360 and it works fine.

    1. Is it not illegal to get in the college network without permission?
    2. Each college would have different security criteria.
    3. They probably have a proxy setup so only registered equipment will go through.

I presume they register the laptop unique MAC address.
**Disclaimer: this is probably totally illegal**
You would have to find out the MAC address of your PS3 and then change the MAC address of an unregistered laptop and bring this to the campus IT dept to get registered for use on network.

Hey, how would i find out the MAC address of my ps3 and then how would I change this MAC address of a laptop? And by doing this and then registering the laptop would I just be registering the PS3 or would both be registered?
And what does it mean to ''proxy the PS3 throgh the laptop''?
Im gunna start working on this straight away so thanks for all the help with it.

You can def. proxy it through a laptop.

Depends on your college set up if this will work for you. Many colleges just allow outgoing web/ssh access through their networks. If you're in that category then it will not work for ya. - You will be able to update your ps3/and use web browser but not play games or PSN.

If your college allows incoming udp traffic then it will work for you - just email them your MAC address (in XMB->System->System info) and they will prob do it for ya.

Either way...if you do get it working and your college notices, they will not like it at all.
