TAX REBATE ISSUE, Assistance Needed

    Hello All

    I may be in the wrong forum, apologies if I am, but I believe this was as close as I could get.

    I did a period of work for a small private {family} construction firm, building a house in Sandymount, last year. {I worked Nov 06 to Feb 07}

    I was paid weekly, by cheque.

    I was handed my P45 on my quitting, and this P45 alludes to some taxes having been paid, on my behalf, to the tune of €600 odd.

    I handed the first page of this P45 to the Dole office, and they kept it.

    I am now wondering how, if, I can get that €600 back, as I only worked a certain period.

    Is this possible, if not, why, and, if so, how do I go about getting the money. Do I need a P60? I haven't worked since.

    Thanks.

    ITL

    Why would you be entitled to not pay tax? Sure you might have paid more than you need to. Unless this was the only work you have done in the whole year in which case you ring the tax office and ask for a balancing statement.

    which reminds me, i have a few years to claim for :D Im sure i overpayed.

    Ring the Revenue and request a balancing statement. They will assess your earnings for a year and calculate the amount of tax you should have paid for the year. If you're due some money back then they will refund you. Or if you owe them money, they will request it from you.

    From January to December 2006 the only paid employment I performed was on this job in question.

    From From January to December 2007- the same.

    I should be amazed if they want any money off of me!!!

    I earned around €5000 and paid €600 in taxes.

    You're supposed to contact the Revenue based on your geographical location. Have a look on their website for office details and find the right one for you.
