Question about chokes - Getting a carb set up in Cork

The 38DGAS Carb in my Capri 2.1 needs a bit of a adjusting methinks.

I think it is running a bit rich, and the automatic choke doesn't seem to be doing the business as well as it should. It works and comes on when you depress the throttle when cold, but the car doesn't seem to be fast idling.

I have the haynes manual. Should I have a bash at setting the choke phasing myself, or does anyone know anyone half decent in or around the city of Cork that could do it for a fair fee.

Also the battery is starting to show a bit of strain. What do people normally fit to these. I would think something like a Mondeo diesel battery would be sensible, but people might have opinons?

Any garage with suitable test equipment will be able to adjust the fuel mix in the carburetter and give you better mpg. As regards a battery, just go for a high capacity that will fit the cradle.

There's a great wee tool called a Gunson Colourtune. It's a sparkplug with a glass top and a viewing mirror, so you can see the colour of the explosion in the cylinder. The idea is that you adjust the mix until the flame is just turned blue (or is it the other way around?)

Either way, a great device. Available at your local motor factors for about €40. Much better to borrow one like I did.
