    Hi folks.

I'm currently doing an MA in Forensic Psychology. I'd like to know people's opinion on the following matter.

"Should the sex offender register be made public?"

It's a tough one which can never be mutually agreed on.

On the one hand, if the prison system is supposed to be rehabilitating and not simply, punishment, then the thought of a public Sex Offenders register is contradictory.

But at the end of the way, a parents sole responsibility is to protect their children and parents would feel much safer knowing who to protect their children from.

I would have to say no for it being public for this very reason. There would be lynchings on a near weekly basis TBH and don't forget not everyone on the sex offenders register is a poedaphile , rapist

i think there are levels of sex offenders and pedophiles and rapists should be made public. whereas someone who was drunk and indecently exposes themselves to a crowd of women shouldnt be. plus their crime should be listed.

definitely not. As was mentioned above it entirely defeats the purpose of rehabilitation. However some names should be made public based on an individual case study, repeat offenders etc... I'm not up to dateon the whole thing really though

yes i def think they should be. or they can basically get away with their crime. it's very important for those who want to work with children also. sure cause of the slip up over in england 5 years ago look what happened to holly and jessica.

I think there should be two very clear different types of the register, obviously the 'currently in rehab normal sex offender' and a register for child sex offenders, the later I believe don't need rehab as a crime as serious as this can't be trusted to be rehabilitated, would you employ an ex-child sex offender no matter how much rehab he/she has taken?....on the other hand a child sex offenders register would probably be useless in this country as all we need to do to find one is walk into any Catholic school/church.
