I'm rooting for Hatton but i love watching mayweather fight, I think he's gonna kill Hatton to be honest

Also rooting for Hatton along with half the known universe. Mayweather's very skilled no doubt, but an arrogant c*nt. I'd love to see Hatton knock some humility into him.

You boys gonna stay up to watch it? I'll probably just give it a viewing over breakfast tbh.

Hatton is the crowd fave no doubt, but to be honest either man winning is fine by me so long as it lives up to the hype.

Mayweather might be a mouth but he is a superb boxer and his arrogance is part of the reason he uses the skills in the ring that many people leave in the gym. I like him, he's a fuct up guy no doubt and arrogant, brash, abrasive and all of those things but I like the boxer.

Ah it wouldn't be a British sporting event if they didn't boo the opponents national anthem.

    Very true Roper,

and they even feed to a partisan crowd by having Tom Jones there for Hatton and a guy from a coke ad who got guillotined from guard by Paul Walker in a terrible film.

    Nice touch.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

    Shame.

Their saying the referee was intimidating Hatton in the corner WTF??
Haye making excuses already! Full respect to Mayweather!

That point was taken cause Hatton directed that punch at the back of Mayweather’s head.
Hatton was out classed, simple as!

I love the way the English commentators are saying we should applaud the English fans for behaving themselves! Er???
The English fans made a show of themselves during the national anthems, typical!

No one's suggesting Mayweather didn't deserve the win, but the referee ruined the fight without a doubt. I'm often criticised and I criticise my da for being anti-English for **** all reason but in both the first two rounds we were on our feet shouting at the telly over the ref. Mayweather would have Hatton's arm locked and the ref would tell Ricky to lock, Mayweather was constantly rubbing forearms and elbows across Ricky's face with nothing said til around the 5th or 6th round.

As I said, no one is sayin Mayweather didn't deserve the win, just think everyone's pissed at stayin up til now to watch the fight and/or paying 22 quid for the privilege of some tosser ruining what should have been a great fight.

I stayed up to watch the fight last night and I have to say firtstly it was a peach of a shot from the yank but I did have concerns....

I felt that Hatton was not allowed to pressure the yank because the ref kept on time after time pullling them apart this was basically throwing the fight for Hatton because this is a big part of his game...

...also the ref was wrong to dock Hatton for throwing a punch that barely landed on the yanks head and what makes it ever worse was the fact that the yank was not docked a point for awful use of the forearm and elbow...whats good for one should have been good for the other...anyway I felt that at this point Hatton was forced to chase the fight putting himself at risk and also he was running out of steam and couldnt not apply the same pressure like in the first couple of rounds...this was right up the yanks street and he was fast on his feet and very accurate with the jab...

From then on he was picking off Hatton as he came forward Hatton had no choice to come forward because he was down on points thanks to the ref docking him a round..

The end came when Hatton rushed forward and was caught with a peach of a counter left hook which landed flush on Hattons upper jaw...It was over soon after...

My parting concern was the set up of the officials...now I know that The Nevada state commission set up the fight but these are world titles and I dont see why all three judges and the ref had to be americans..

I mean what about a south american or mexican ref eh?

Think about the implications of Hatton winning this fight..

    Hatton Champion
    Calzage Champion
    Khan possible future Champion
    Haye possible future Champion
    Enzo possible Champion
    Witter Champion

what do these have in common all from the UK- what does that mean- it means las vega and america loses alot of revenue and boxing clout because contenders would have to go the the UK for a title shot...politics I hate it..

To end it the ref messed up Hattons game plan- he is a fighter and wasnt allowed to fight on the inside- he ran out of gas..

Mayweather the boxer was given an easy ride by the ref and picked Hatton off later in the fight forcing Hatton to chase the fight resulting in him making mistakes.

Well done to the yank it went your way with a little help

Hard luck Ricky your done your country proud

    just my views- An IrishMan.

the ref broke everything up way to quick..... it really took away the little chance hatton had of winning

It was a great fight won by the best boxer there is, no doubt..i loved it.and hatton is still top class too.

Close to what I was thinking, however I don't agree it was a 'great fight'.

Regarding the ref. I'm 50/50 on him.

Yes he spoiled alot of the earlier rounds, and probably didn't allow Hatton into the fight proper. But when Hatton was picked off so easy, with whats a pretty basic punch, I wonder did the spoiling just save Hatton from an earlier bath?.

Re. the punch Paul, how many times have you demonstrated to a beginner the importance of not continually fighting in straight lines towards you opponent?. I used to love fighter's who'd come at me like that. Step off and pow.

Even when my son seen it he said "Jeeze Dad I love getting 'em like that''!.

IMO Mayweather was just in a class of his own, from beginning to end.

But I loved Hatton's post fight interview's, seems a genuinely good bloke.

    What about Mayweather's job, WOW.

Literally just finished watching it. This pretty much sums it up for me.

Yeah, I agree with that. As others have said though, he kept coming at him the same way. I was surprised mayweather didn't cop onto it sooner, but when he did, by jesus he capitalised.

    @Mairt,
I disagree that it was a basic punch, true it was a left hook but put it into context. Hatton exploded at him with full pace, Mayweather was so quick to step to the side and still land the clean shot, all of that makes it a highly impressive shot imo.

I think that sums in up to be fair...Hatton had to really chase the fight putting himself at risk...but text book hook check from Mayweather he is very quick!!

Oh I don't disagree with what you say about Mayweather landing the clean shot.

But when you've a pretty exhausted fighter coming at you, committed in what he's doing, then I think its a pretty basic shot.

Or to put it into context, it showed Mayweather'ss class for him to get Hatton with that one. It made Hatton look very ordinary in my books.

Overall I don't think it was a great contest as Mayweather was just head & shoulders above Hatton in terms of class.

I just watched it again, in my opinion a complete mis match, i know Hatton is a bleeder, but just look at the 2 boxers faces at the end of the fight, Mayweather looks like he just came out of the shower, Hatton looks like he was mugged badly!

Funny too listening to Mayweather, the reason I gave up watching boxing, all he was doing was plugging companies and merchandise.
