    Parking Facilities.

    310. Deputy Olivia Mitchell Information Zoom asked the Minister for Transport Information Zoom his plans to make parking facilities for bicycles users at LUAS stations more secure in view of the fact that numerous bicycles are stolen every week at LUAS stops from users of public transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32438/07]

Minister for Transport (Deputy Noel Dempsey): Information Zoom This is a day to day operational matter for the Railway Procurement Agency and the Garda. I have no function in the matter.

Blah blah blah. Typical pass-the-buck answer. I see these pathetic answers all the time in Fingal County Council meetings.

If you go to the Gardai they'll (probably quite honestly) cite lack of resources. I'd be surprised if the RPA cared.

What would be good, get 100 U locks and lock the gates of the dail shut with them.

Then maybe they might know what a bicycle lock is.

They almost certainly don't care, but if even one car was stolen regularly from a RPA carpark, they would employ more gaurds etc.

It is up to us as collective to make the government/agencies care. The issues being bike security, cycling road rights and safety.

In fairness, Frank Allen (Chief Executive, RPA) is a cyclist and they seem to be reasonably happy to do low cost measures.

That might help explain why they provide excellent showering/changing facilities for staff in-house.

What does secure parking facilities mean? Is it not the cyclist's responsability to lock the bike securely?

I think they mean well lit, not a place where people's property can be vandalized, of course you raise a interesting point, how many cyclists don't lock there bike correctly?

Even when they're secure, RPA or more accurately the carpark management company couldn't care less.

some cyclists are so inconsiderate when locking their bikes, imagine parking in front of a skateboard ramp of all places!
