    Afternoon all,

My wife and I are looking to go away to Europe for 2-3 nights including New Years Eve as we're píssed off being in Ireland every NYE. We would like to go somewhere wintery/snowy and we're thinking of going back to Heidelberg but the flight times would be slightly restrictive in regards to going out on New Years Eve, but we might still go anyway. Ideally we wouldn't want to spend more than 300-400 on the flights and we wouldn't be looking to stay in an expensive hotel of any sort. So has anyone got any ideas of somewhere around 2-3 hours away that would be nice for a winter break?

    Cheers.

Bergamo. Ryanair fly there (they call it Milan!)

somewhere wintery and snowy, try tampere in finland, ryanair fly direct to there. i was there in feb this year, lovely town, fairly large (approx 250,000 people) plenty of good nightlife options as well

if its not wintery of snowy enough head north to the city of Oulu

Hey thanks for that but I wouldn't go near Bergamo again if you paid me! We got married in Riva Del Garda in June of this year and had to stay in Bergamo for one night before we flew out to Frankfurt and then went on to Heidelberg. We couldn't wait to get out of that town from almost the first minute we arrived there, it was so unbelievably rough; we felt like we were in Beirut even though we were staying in a pretty nice hotel:( I honestly would never set foot in that town again even if it was for free.

Yead I'd really like to see Berlin actually, good option - thanks!

Ok, Berlin looks quite expensive so I don't think that's a runner. Tampere, however, does look pretty reasonable (about €900 for flights and accom.) so we're gonna look into that further.

Yeah, but go to the old town, on the hilltop!

I know it's probably not the snowiest place in the world but the New Year's/Hogmanay party in Edinburgh is meant to amazing!!

Was thinking about Edinburgh but it looks a tad expensive. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to go somewhere different in Europe/Scandinavia though.

Hmm, I've been over a few times as I have an aunt who lives there but I would like to go somewhere different tbh. It's an option though I s'pose.

We have a winner! I just booked 3 nights in the Holiday Inn in Tampere. I read some reviews of the hotel and city and they were all quite positive. Really looking forward to it now:D

Thanks very much for your help and opinions guys!
