Gain on transparent dishes...

    Folks,
I have an unbranded 95cm dish with multi (3) dual lnb's a the moment. 'Cause it's unbranded, I've no idea what the gain figure for the dish is... but it was a cheap-and-cheerful dish so I'd image the gain figure is on the average side.

Dish is quite visible at the mo' - and it's drawn the odd snide comment from the neighbours. I was thinking of replacing it with one of these (http://www.pulsat.com/satellite/site/details.php?product_id=330) clear dishes. It has a gain figure (Gain @ 11.70GHz 38.4dB) which seems comparable to other solid dishes in that size range... but because I can't compare it directly with a figure for my own dish I'm left a little uncertain.

Anyone used these dishes before? Any comments on using one for 13/19/28 in south dublin? Is the only difference between the clear dish/solid dish the (yikes  !) price? Or is there a difference in quality too?

    Ta!
    Tom.

They are not quite as good as a solid metal dish. Also, they are highly reflective and can look like a dirty big mirror when the sun's in the right (wrong!) place. The photos on the web sites craftily show the sky behind the dish. Mostly you'll just see a reflection of whatever's in front of the dish. And the bracket and pole look horrible - especially once they start to rust.

Hey, but don't let me put you off! ;)

Nah Sam - thanks for the comments. They do look great on the various websites... but so do most things!

Methinks I'll stick to an old spray can of magnolia from the local homebase then.

    Ta very much
    T.
