Why is it "crap"? It plays ps3 games exactly the same as the 60gb, and I assume you know all the other advantages of the 60gb. But since you already own a 40gb its hardley worth getting the 60gb unless you really cant live without being able to play ps2 games.

Check the latest posts on this to see where ya might pick up a 60gb anyway.

A couple of weeks ago smyths in waterford had a few 60gb. I suggest you try GAME or gamestop, you might be lucky and be able to pick up one second hand one.

i dont particularly mind the 40gb as im keeping my ps2 but those memory card readers and 2 usb ports well eh, if i can find a 60gb for 350 used or something, i'd prefer that over the 40gb

you could always connect a usb hub to one usb port and a usb mem card reader to the other one but I know what you mean, it's better to have them built in.
Glad I snapped up my 60gb when the price reduction was introduced. I'd like to know what happens if something goes wrong with it though and it needs to go back to sony. are they going to replace it with a 40gb or something.

Buy some games and stop looking at the differences.

If there are still some people out there who simply MUST have the 60gb version, they still have it in smyths out in sligo

Unfortunately even Smyth's in Sligo is all out of the 60Gb PS3s and they've been out of them for some time and this is an error. I've searched the Buy&Sell, Adverts, ebay etc. and unless you want to pay someone €700 or more you're probably not going to get one and the few used ones out there get grabbed up really fast. There are a few options on ebay, but I'm not prepared to give my credit card details to someone in Nigeria. So the only other option is to get an 80Gb one from the US and then buy a 2nd hand PS2(Irish) in Game to replace my broken PS2, with the weak dollar and the reduced price on 2nd hand PS2s this works out to about the same price of buying an Irish 40GB PS3, the only disadvantage is a US PS3 may not be able to play all PAL Blueray DVDs.

Well while I'm getting the PS3 from the US, what else do I need? I'm looking at another wireless controller (does the PS3 come with one wired or wireless controller?), a HDMI cable, a blueray remote and some games. Anything else needed?

The controller they give you is wireless and comes with an integrated rechrgable battery which can be recharged by connecting it to one of the ps3's usb ports. As for that hdmi cable, ebay is prob the cheapest and trust me, get the cheapest.I bought that blu-ray remote and have regretted getting it- you can do everything with the controller

I personally like the bd-remote ,big play button ,big pause button . It's just much more user friendly when you've got a dvd or blu-ray playing.

    I think it's a quality remote ,considering it's bluetooth.

Yeah, I love my one as well... It's perfect for flicking through the menus/browsing the PS store. Well worth the asking price imo.

If I were the OP, I'd just get a 4 port USB hub with a card reader built into it, and spend the extra cash on a 160GB laptop hard drive to put into the PS3 (or even 250GB)
Can't say that I've ever used the card slots on my 60GB model, and would never need to use more than 2 usb ports at the same time (and could just use my hub if I ever did anyway...)
PS2 BC is handy, but you'll also need to splash out on a memory card adapter as well if you want to access your old saves... You'd be better off just hanging on to the 40GB and your old PS2 imo

    Zonda & Brian,
Thanks for the tips. We had two different wireless controllers for the PS2 and in the end we switched back to the wired ones, certainly rechargeable batteries with a convenient recharging system helps but I found that the PS2 wireless controllers wouldn't always respond as quick as the wired ones, it would work fine 99% of the time, but if you're gaming and you reaction is occasionally delayed because of the wireless, you'll go back to the wired controller. Is the PS3 wireless remote more reliable?

Third party wireless joypads are usually total crap. The PS3's remote control and the official pad are both great, I haven't had any issues with either of them anyway.
Afaik there isn't a wired controller available for the PS3 anyway, so you don't have much choice in the matter...

I see that Aldi's have a wired PS3 remote for €11.99, I've already ordered a 2nd wireless remote, so I probably won't get this but it's usb so it can be used for the PC too. Has anyone tried this yet? I bought a wired PS2 remote in Aldi's about 2 years ago after all the others broke including the original Sony one and it has been the best of them all.

Sweet mother of god can someone verify that?!? Also how much? 600?

I went into PC World Sligo this evening around 5.00 and they said they never got any in. I asked a sales assistant to do a stock check on the other stores. She said most had some - one she mentioned was 4 in Galway. I rang them up and they said they had no 60s only 40s. Are staff buying them themselves? Can't blame them if they are. I do remember she said Waterford had 6 but that's not much good to me in the North West. So, if you're on the lookout for one and are around there tomorrow morning it might be worth popping in.

I thought I had this all sorted, bought a 80GB PS3 in NY and it was stolen from the suitcase. Aer Lingus is no help at all, saying it was probably stolen in JFK and since the suitcase wasn't stolen and I didn't have traveller's insurance, I don't even know if I will get any money. Not only did they take the PS3, but a 2nd wireless controller and 5 games, plus a few other items, about $1,000 in total. I'm totally distraught.:(

What options do I have? And since I wanted the PS3 for Christmas I guess I now have to buy another one and this time the inferior 40Gb.

Any good deals for the 40Gb PS3?

That sucks... though in fairness.. how you can travel without insurance is beyond me... You could have got it for about €40 for the year.
Harvey Norman and xtravision had good deals last i saw.

What? What the hell do you want to connect to all the USB ports? :-)
Just connect a €10 usb hub, and taa-daa, you're set...

There are plenty of 60gig PS3's in the Buy & Sell and eBay. But everyone wants to play there PS2 games on it, and it's not really that big a deal. The majority of my old games won't run on the PS3, and the ones that do, don't look as good as before.

Also, bear in mind that you need an adaptor for the PS2 memory card to play your old saved games, and you only need to use it once to with each game.

Technically you already have free insurance on your bags up to about €1,000, but unfortunately there's a long list of exception which includes electronics, photo equip., computer equip, jewlery, cash, almost everything that is worth stealing. and purchased insurance has the same exceptions.

I haven't had a problem with PS2 BC yet, and most titles are ok according to the Sony list. They ALL look better on the PS3 as it upscales and smooths them.

What would one normally plug into the USB ports that would require more than 2? Excuse my ignorance - just starting to investigate getting one of these!

Nothing really. Apparently you can plug in card readers or hubs anyway, so its not really an issue.
