Heating question

I intend to use solar DHW in my new house, 6m² of panels and a 300l tank.

I am going to use an oil boiler in the garage to heat my house (later changing to wood pellet)

I also intend using a Solid fuel/Pellet stove with back boiler

My question is, do I need a 3 coil tank (Bottom Solar, Mid Stove, Top Oil boiler) or can a 2 coil tank (Bottom Solar, Top Oil Boiler & Stove) be configured to allow the stove to "help" the central heating oil boiler ?

my advice would be for a 3 coil as u will need to have the BB vented and the plumbing gets a bit messy if u want to avoid the BB being a radiator when the CH is on and BB not. I dont like NRV's on a solid fuel system

JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGHT ROOM TO BULK STORE YOUR WOOD PELLETS IN THE FUTURE, I UNDERSTAND SEI GRANTS WILL ONLY BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO CAN BULK STORE I.E 3TONS AND UPWARDS.THIS DECISION WAS MADE V. RECENTLY AND QUIETLY!!

i've a three coil tank, and for the most part have the system you describe

are you going to have a presurised system or gravity? i've used a pressurised system, unfortunately u can't connect stoves with a back boiler
to the sytem, (can only be done with gravity systems)

by the way in order to cut down on the lead time for the hot water to
arrive at the taps from the tank, i've inserted a separate circuit for this and continuosly circulates (using timeclock- (will hook up via GSM card later) at peak times.

    a couple of points
get a 3 channel timer 1 for h.w. 1 for heating & spare for later or depending on the way you hook it up you can use channel 1&2 for heating and Channel 3for the hot water, or use one of the channels for the emersion, so many options

i used 7 core 2.5 SWA from the box in the utility room/controls to boiler
(only used 5 cores i've 2 spare) (mains to other box in garage was
    3 X 6Sq SWA

used Zero loss pipe from garage to utility room cost me
970yoyo:eek:  what a complete waste of money, if i were doing it again i'd get 1" qualpex or similar insert into 4" wavin pipe and every 18" or so drill a hole and use a few cans expanding foam.

regarding the system at the moment i've a firebird condensing boiler, 4 solar panels and the plumbing completed for the wood pellet (to be installed in another room in the garage when i've a few quid)

    i have some photo's i'll upload 2moro evening

De_Man: can you give us a bit more detail on or/and weblinks to the GSM card idea please.
    Thanks

    De_man,

Any chance of a schmatic of the system?

Sounds like you did it right!

    Regards,
