Played on Wednesday... 130yd Par3 into the teeth of a gale took a full-blooded seven-iron that literally landed vertically and barely fell out of it's plug mark... Par-four on the back nine - still 95yds away after a drive and six iron - the nine-iron of my life to get home (about 115 to pin) and the ball actually stayed in it's plug mark...

Still, ye gotta love that lift, clean and place, am I right? :D

Killeen's in great nick by the way for anyone who's lookin for somewhere to play...

Reminds me... played waterville links several years ago.... was just before halloween.
One of the worst days I was ever out in, let alone golfed in ;)

Par 3's were 3 iron, 3 iron, 3 wood and driver and not even off the back markers either :)
None of them made it much past the front fringe....
One par 5 was a drive and a flick of a 9 iron going the other way.... love to play the place again on a more benign day.

In need of golf now... played 2 weekends ago on a beautiful sunday... shirt sleeves.
Think I'll stick to golf tour on the nokia in this weather :D

It was actually a grand day on Wednesday - just windy as hell! Barely a drop of rain the whole round...

Hit the ball nicely too - putted like an oul one though

Winter golf eh... ice cube hands hitting a three iron into a biting wind on a short par three. Ah sure it's character building lads! being from Scotland this weather is like summer to me.:)

My swing was getting a bit tired so i haven't played in three weeks. Just been hitting a few balls at the driving range. Got my name down for Sunday though so here's hoping it's better out than it is today.

I am prone to bouts of absolutely horrendous golf from time to time - and I don't mean getting stuck with a bit of a pull or a push in your swing, I mean almost to the point of having trouble keeping any shot in play...

At these times, I properly hate golf. It's no fun and I have no desire to play.

So, what I usually do is just put the clubs away and forget about it until the desire comes back. Instead of fighting it, I just give myself a break.

I did this recently after a very poor run of form, ball-striking wise... Didn't even look at the clubs for about three weeks.

Then, last Sunday, the desire to hit a few balls just came back and I went to the range... hit it nice.

Prob wont get a chance to play til Monday week now though, so will just keep it tickin over on the range I guess...

Hey Whip, why play full-blooded shots in the wind? They're one sure way of not keeping control of the ball. I've played in similar conditions over the last 2 weekends and it's been a 2-club and sometimes even a 3-club wind! Why play the full air shot from 100 yards when you can drop back down to a 7/8 iron, tee it up, and play a little punch shot under the wind. You'll find you have much more control & confidence over the shot.

Give it a try - I've brought in 20 and 21 pts for 9 holes in recent weeks playing this way. Good luck.

Wouldn't necessarily disagree with you madds, but unfortunately I'm just not very proficient with punch shots... I've had alot of success recently by adopting that kinda strategy from say 40-70 yards. Keeping the ball low with almost pitch-n-putt type shots...

But when I'm swinging well and my timing is good, I prefer to play full shots where possible.
