The subwoofer in my 5.1 surround sound system died this evening. Got it in a 5.1 surround sound system off my girlfriend last Christmas from Pixmania - PO'd about it all to be honest.

And i realised how everything i have hooked up relies on it.. my XBOX 360 can't output sound without it on my TV (odd inputs) and neither can my media drive.

So am going into town to buy one tomorrow simply because (unless someone can recommend a great cheap one online) I can't wait for it to be shipped to me online. So any seen any cheapies in brick and mortar shops?

PS - since i have the speakers.. can i just buy the subwoofer on it's own? Never really seen them for sale on their own.

You could get an amp and then you can plug all your stuff into that and then your old speakers into that.

Is the warranty finished??If so you could buy the sub on its own.I d'ont know a lot about prices for surround sound systems but i'm guessing one of these would probably be superior to the one that came in the set, unless the set was top of the range

However there does also seem to be some pretty good deals on full sets aswell

Cheers BFassassin but standalone amp's are normally pretty pricey, right? And i'm not a musician to get any other use out of it.

Yeah, girlfriend reckons she got it about the end of November last year and we've no clue where any of the box / warranty contents are or anything like that. And i assume it was a standard one year manufacturer's warranty.

Not sure how much the set was (as she bought it for a Christmas present) but I reckon it was €100 tops. The standalone subwoofers look a bit pricey.

EDIT: In fact, this is it. The 5 speakers are just the right size and are perfect. Just the subwoofer is gone! :(
