Ok i am a completely new ps3 user and this is also my first post on boards.
I went onto the www.eu.playstation.com site and followed all of the steps to download ''the latest'' firmware. When I found the download screen, it said that the version was ''Version 1.0 (November 11, 2006)''. Do I download this even though I know that version 2.10 just came out?
Heres the lick to the page im talking about.

:confused::confused: Can anyone please help me?:confused::confused: (I know i should be shot for owning a ps3 and not knowing how to do this)

Just plug in your PS3, connect it to your internet settings, and then goto System->System Update in the main menu on the PS3.

You don't need a webbrowser or pc to do it....just the system update button in the menu :)

    hope this helps,

    P

Why do you want to update the PS3?

The only reason most people upgrade is cos you are forced to when using the PS3 online. The updates do offer the odd extra feature - but nothing major. As you are a new user, I guess your PS3 is fairly new - so your really not going to notice anything new when you update.

In my opinion, don't update if ya don't have to :)

I want to update because the new 2.10 supposedly stops games like asssassins creed and uncharted from freezing and improves ps2 graphics compatability according to the playstation site. And you get to customize the opening screen too?
I also went through all the steps mentioned in the link just posted and on the final page its the verison 1.0 that im not sure about. I already have the save file directory set up for my usb stick but is it the version 1.0 that I download?
Oh and I just got the ps3 last week

(you can all throw virtual rocks at me for being so slow!!)

Oh and some games require the latest firmware to be played

hmm 2.01 i think your talking about, and I don't think it really fixed much.

There are however updates for them games in particular i think, when you go to play AC it will tell you an update is available. This is not the 2.01 PS3 update.

If I was you, your best off to try to get your PS3 online and let it download all the updates it needs. Bring it over to a mates house or even into college. Any wifi connection will work for you. (You only need to worry about setting up wifi properly if you want to do more than just update).

the link posted if the right one. The 1.0 is the license agreement revision no.

To install the update you need to place the file in PS3/UPDATE folder on memory card or FAT32 USB HDD.

Ok cool, well u are right i meant the 2.01 and I guess my next problem is getting it online I guess. (i havnt tried to yet!)
To the last post,If that ''version 1.0'' really is the lisence revision im sorry for wasting all yer time lol. Will it not work with a FAT USB?
The ps3 site was seriously freaking me out, they made it sound like you REALLY need to keep updating your firmware.
Thanks all all the help by the way.

Yes it will work with FAT HDD. It will also work with various memory cards if you have 60GB version with card readers.

if you want assassins creed to play better you will need the update for it too. Search around to see if you can download it.

All this updating business is well handy if you have your ps3 online.

Ok, I just realised that the version 1.0 I was talking about is the license agreement.....sorry.Emmm so it turns out that theres no problem at all. Im gunna download it to my usb now. Thanks for all the help by the way.
To be honest im probably (defenitely) going to be posting many more retarded questions about how to use the ps3 so you'll all hear from me then lol.
(the next will be how to get online im sure)
