I expected Newcastle to put out a strong team. The Challenge Cup is their big goal this season as they're mid table in the GP. I'd planned to go but can't because of work so I haven't looked into tickets.

It would be good to see the best pound for pound for player in the world make his debut for Newcastle :D

Great win for connacht. Was at the game. I thought the Connacht forwards dominated Newcastle, they were all over them. Won a few scrums (Carl Hayman was in that Newcastle scrum) and a lot of good breaks. A combination of a good Newcastle defense and not as clinical as they should be connacht backline kept this tie so close. in fairness the connacht backs made the correct decisions in the later stages of the game. Took a drop goal ~74 mins when three down to tie the game when the try wasn't coming. Team had the patience to work the ball up the field and force Newcaslte into conceding a penalty.
Best for Connacht: All the forwards
Best for Newcastle: J Wilkinson (this man is a class act), John Rudd 11 Brute of a man, made yards when given the ball.

Well done Connacht, a fully deserved win by all accounts. It's great to see the likes of Connacht putting it up on a team full of stars like the Falcons.

Does anyone know will there be any highlights from the match?

I was at the game with my bf because his usual game-going partner couldnt go, so I went for a look. Im a very very long way from a rugby expert but enjoy watching so aside from the game, a few things entertaining...
The mascots racing/Eddie the eagle diving over the finish line,
The huge swarm of people running after Johnny Wilkinson at the end,
The last 10 mins or so, the crowd finally livened up a bit!

And we got our tickets on the gate.

I was at the Connacht V Munster match there last season and Eddie the eagle caught/touched the ball as it went into touch thus preventing Connacht taking a quick throw-in, the Connacht player wasn't too impressed with his mascot at the time. I thought someone should have explained the do's and dont's to the mascot at the beginning of the season.

Great result, and brilliant atmosphere, especially in the second half. Carl Hayman was much hyped, but Connacht more than held their own in the scrum and the loose. Even wheeled one scrum 90 on hayman's side.
Connacht totally owned the ball in the second half and really should have scored more, but once again lack of penetration and a cutting edge let us down. I'd say 90% of the 2nd half was played in Newcastle's half. Johnny Wilkinson was good with the ball, kicked well out of hand and didn't miss any kicks at goal, but even the best outhalf can't do much without the ball. Andy Dunne missed 2 early kicks at goal which didn't bode well, but recovered well and really stepped up to the mark when the pressure was on. His kicking out of hand was superb.
Definitely the most enjoyable match I've been to at the Sportsground. Won't be in Newcastle for the return match next week but the lads going shold have some fun.
    Come on Connacht!

Could have been he just had more ball cos we had better forwards! IIRC, wasn't Wilko touted for early senior international recognition while he was still a schoolboy?
