Sorry if this has been posted already i didnt find anything in a search.

Just saw these boxes for €83 in Virgin dundrum. My question is does anyone have one and if so is it any use. It says up to 40 freeview channels on the box but that cant be the case here surely?

Not unless you can receive Freeview from the UK. You may however get the four Irish channels if you live in Dublin or the North East. I think it is outrageous that items like that are sold in the Republic Of Ireland.

You mean the North East, don't you, Mossy? :)

€83 is nothing short of robbery either.

Even in the UK this may be obsolete soon.
Parts of Northwest can get Brougher?

Cavan town I believe is not too difficult, no worse than south Fermanagh. Parts of north Monaghan, Cavan and south Donegal can also receive good signals without a massive setup.

    Do not buy !!

This was an ERROR on Virgins side. If you notice , they are not in any other shops here. They are for customers in the UK .

The trial currently uses MPEG–2 coding but plans are in place to use the more advanced and spectrum efficient MPEG-4 coding in later phases of the trial which will facilitate High Definition Services.

    From the Comreg site

Its been mentioned here before, but its worth mentioning it again, if anybody's thinking of buying a Freeview box for the trial, just consider the above piece to stop you wasting your hard earned dosh, especially considering the price quoted above!

Also Consider that this box is the UK freeview box not Ireland. Its not ready for Ireland yet. It will be off the shelves soon .
