unworking pedal - advice please

about two years ago the power supply for my fancy boutique overdrive pedal broke, and for various reasons it's taken me this long to get a replacement. finally sound an overpriced adaptor in maplins the other day that seems to meet all the requirements (very high mA, etc).

so i plug it in, all the lights come on and everything seems normal. but no sound will come through when the pedal is on, only a faint hiss, the intensity of which is controllable by the pedal's output knob. when the pedal is in bypass, the signal comes through fine.

opened it up and i can't see anything lose, but i don't know anything about electronics. the tubes looked fine when i took them out too, even replaced them with some older ones i had knocking about and there was no difference.

so, could this be a problem with the power supply i bought? or does it sound more likely to be a problem with the pedal itself?

any advice is much appreciated. thanks.

What's the pedal? Perhaps you should email the manufacturer. Some smaller makers have great customer service. I had trouble with a Visual Sound pedal a few years back and emailed them. The owner/designer (not some functionary) got back to me within a couple of days and, when I explained the problem, they sent me a new part for free. Had to pay someone here to install it, but still...
