Winter Vomiting Bug in the hospitals.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me something.

My mum is in hospital a while, and it seems like she will be there quite a while longer. This will be the first Christmas she has been away from her family. We intend to spend all of Christmas day with her, if we're allowed, but all visiting has now been suspended due the hospital having the Winter vomiting bug.

I really hope to God that the hospital isnt still closed off for Christmas as this would be terrible for my mum. She is already very lonely with no visitors. (she is on her own as well as she has contracted MRSA AGAIN! while in there).

Has anyone encounted this before in our hospitals, and if so, any idea how long the hospital is usually off limits for?
I know its probably swings and roundabouts, but any advice would be welcome.
    Thanks

not all wards may be subject to such a ban - check with the individual ward managers as they may permit it.

Also things are always more flexible at christmas....

Finally - absolutely do not visit under any circumstances if you have had either diaorrhea or vomiting in the last 48 hours no matter how well you now feel.

I spent Christmas 05' in CUH and was allowed see my family for 2 hours afaik. Same for my ward-mates (Iduno what you'd call them :p). The bug was doing the rounds massively at the time. I worked last Christmas in CUH and it was the same setup. The bug is quite serious and for the sake of everyone involved the more controlled it is the better. I know, it's pretty horrendous.
