    Hi guys...

Was thinking of getting the W580i, I have a Sony Ericsson and think they're pretty decent phones in general. I had a look online and there seems to be quite a few people that had problems with the keys cracking. Obviously this would be a bit of a turn-off. Does anyone know if Sony Ericsson have fixed the problem?
Or does anyone have one of these phones and would they recommend buying one?

    Thanks a lot,

    Fran.

The first batches sold have the issue you describe (its the w580) although it seems to have been corrected in more recent production batches.

    Sorry, you're correct it's the W580 not the K580...Thanks!

I would recommend it. I have it 3 months now. no "cracked keys" whatever that means!

Great music player and camera. Havent been able to get the TrackID thing working yet but I think that has something to do with my WAP settings because I havent been able to send photo messages since I got it either saying connection refused. I keep meaning to go into a shop and ask them. I already went onto their site and got the settings sent to my phone but it still doesnt work.

One bad thing I would say about it is, the only way to lock the phone is by sliding it open and closing it again and this is a balls because you will do a lot of stuff without having to slide it open.

I am looking at getting one of these phones at the moment aswell. Is the battery life good on them? I have the w810i at the moment and the battery life is great on it, so i would like to get another phone with similar battery life!

I bought this phone about a month ago. So far the 4, 6 and 8 buttons have cracked. They still work fine though. It comes with a 512 MB M2 card so it should hold up to 150 songs out of the box, depending on the size i guess. Despite the buttons i think it's a pretty decent phone.

    Cracked? Do they stop working?
Would you not bring it back to get fixed?
    6months warranty?
Oh sorry only read it proper there never mind!

The buttons still work but a vertical crack can develop down the centre of some early production run keyboads.

Warranty is 2 years to the original purchaser on all handsets within the EU.

I wouldnt recommend you buy this phone, after two months five of the keys were cracked and the round direction button was worn (used to be silver but now a blue colour is coming through from underneath) and it looks horrible, brought it back to where it was bought and it was sent away to be fixed, they replaced the keypad. I have it back a week now so i am waiting to see how long it will take for them to break again

the motor for vibrating went on my w580... sent it away to be fixed, it took them six weeks even thought they told me 10 days and it still doesn't work!

So after all my talking the top left button (the calls or unlock button) stopped working after what looked a piece of plastic from underneath it came out.

I went straight into the o2 shop where I bought it on Henry street, he took out my memory card and put it in a brand new w580i and handed it to me there and then and said "Sorry the first one didnt work out!" No questions or mention of sending it off or anything! So I was happy no end with that. There also seems to be a slight difference in this one where the two semi circular buttons seem to be reinforced kinda from the first version I had!
